That is the problem in the tech support industry is companies either will outsource for 1/20th of the cost of an american worker getting paid $12/hr or they will “lay off” 10 year employees for the 18 year old crowd who will work for $12/hr. Hence why tech support sucks.

I know core networking stuff. Is there any suggestions or thoughts in regards to IT requirements these days? Overall I think certs are fairly useless but would get a few if it bolstered my resume. You guys still have jobs…what area or skillset do you suggest I look at?

There are multiple Windows Server + Linux jobs out there…experience is what everyone is looking for…or find a company with some room to move up…
Go apply at places like premcom, synergy, pca, pci…there are also a number of IT staffing firms locally…
Getting in somewhere is key…once you’re in and have some experience…find other jobs is very easy…

We had a big debate about this in another thread…but to get in somewhere MCSE or CCNA would really help…
a girl here heard another rumor that layoffs would start on monday… and that my WHOLE dept ( cust serv) would be gone by feb 16…

I had been through many of those rumor mills at Ingram in my 10 years there. Best bet is just try and relax cause you won’t know the real deal till they announce it. And you can’t change it so just update you resume and stay nimble.
I hope for the customers sake they don’t do what you’re hearing. Jesus the OSP is hard to understand and not the brightest either.
I would start ridiculous rumours and see if i can get people to freak out and get fired before the layoffs… then when they look at the numbers and are under what they need… no layoffs! Survival of the fittest
rumors are rumors… none of them have come from MGMT so none of them can be taken for anything…
even HR has no idea from what our sources are indicating
i would say that HR def knows…
but yea i can’t assume anything is true…but ive heard dif rumors from dif people and they are all similar adding up to announcements next week
