I’m curious to know…
What ‘other kind’ of potential do 240’s have that other cars don’t?
RWD cars are a lot more enjoyable to drive than FWD cars on or off a track. With a RWD car, you can either take a turn a little off or a little too hard and have the tendency to swing the back end out, either accidentally or purposely. There’s more adrenaline in that than there is with an understeering FWD car.
When there are gatherings, what makes 240’s ‘a little different’ than most? What determines ‘other riced out’ cars that is so different than a ‘riced out’ 240?
240 owners, are a little more mature than owners of other cars (this is hard to prove as of late, due to the current state of SON members, and the current attitude going around). I’ve never seen 240 owners purposely start racing on the streets to or after a meet. I’ve been to Honda/Acura, Mazda, as well as a few mixed vehicles meets and noticed that there are at least 2-3 show offs/ricers/immature drivers out there. Either with crazy neon, crazy paint, more dB’s than HP or even sense, yet they still talk shit.
Also, when was the last time you’ve seen a 240 with a body kit that either didn’t match, or was originally intended for another car? Our cars are clean, stock or not.
Ignorant, irrelevant statement unless you can prove this. I have scouted their forums, I’d like to know how you came to the conclusion that they have more ‘ricers that stick out’ than 240’s do.
Look at avatars or signature images. I’ve seen Hyundai Tiburon owners think their cars are hot shit with a stock 4 cyl and a checkered flag decal going down the side of their car. There’s a Tiburon painted General Lee orange with a confederate flag on the roof, 01 on the door, wheels that don’t match the body+sunken battle ship, as well as an ugly invader/kombat-style bodykit. I won’t list any forum names, or usernames. I used to be really into Honda Preludes and Integras. I’ve seen more Preludes working that “JDM” interior with a riced out exterior that looks like something Timmy from South Park drew up… This example is taken from driving on the 401 about a year ago.
Your friends think their cars are hot shit…while 240 owners don’t have the same mentality? 240 owners don’t think their cars are de-tuned race cars from factory? Please say that isn’t so!
Other car owners all know they are ricers but are unable to to feel shame? So Nissan owners AREN’T ricers who are unable to feel shame so they don’t admit? Or they do feel shame but they just don’t admit? Or are you trying to say there’s no such thing as a 240sx ricer?
Of course they’re such thing as a riced out 240. The first riced out 240 I’ve seen was in Mississauga (I think), or wherever that Colosus thing is. It was a white 240 hatch that had mismatched aero. kombat-style front bumper and wing, random side skirts with stupid vents filled with chicken wire, and stock rear bumper. Of course there’s gonna be more, but I haven’t seen 'em yet.
And no, I’m not trying to say that our cars are ‘de-tuned race cars’. Our cars are severely de-tuned, that is a given, otherwise most of the people here wouldn’t be hating on KA’s as much and the SR20 wouldn’t have been as overglorified as it is.
So your friend has had all that done to his car…I’m confused by your sentences, are you saying that he’s rice because he’s done these mods to his car? Or he’s rice because he has a Civic? Or is he rice simply because he’s had a ‘ton of shit’ done to his car?
The riced part is that outside of our circle of friends, he’s a shit talker. If he doesn’t know what the next guy has, he’s overconfident and talks like he’s got 600 HP to back him up. That and his car is 2-tone baby blue and black… In all the wrong places… Aero-mirrors, and ugly side skirts poorly molded in (bondo cracking), and trying to be “OH JDM DRIFTER TYTE!” with the zip-tie X’s on his uncracked, factory bumper…
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the mods you have listed. But those would disagree can certainly let me know - perhaps in my ignorance, I don’t see the ‘rice’ in those mods.
I just need a little clarification on this last part:
He admits that you’ll have ‘what?’ You will still have a chance at…? Beating him in quarter-mile or road-track?
Quarter-mile. Of course, he either doesn’t know what he’s got (doesn’t know much about cars, just got into it almost 2 years ago), or he’s just being nice.
You’ve given quite a bit of thought on the topic - so I’d like to see what other justifications there are to your aforementioned statements. I want you to understand that I’m not trying to bust your chops - I’m simply trying to understand a different point of view from my own.
