inspection question

My jeep is throwing a check engine light related to emissions crap. If I unplug the battery for alittle while the light goes away for a couple days. If I do this, will I be able to pass inspection with the light not on or will it still be in the computer and get read?

what year is your jeep?

if it’s 96+ then probably no since your sensor won’t be in the ready state and they’ll make you come back later.

/\ What he said. You need to have so many drive cycles I believe in NYS to pass the inspection. Whats the code its throwing? Could be something simple and cheap to fix.

derek u wanna borrow my rediness plug u can. it plugs into the obd2 port and when all your readyness monitors are set it lights up. if the check engine light comes on when the monitors r setyou know ur sol

I’m 90% sure that you’ll fail the test if you do this. I believe I read that the system checks to see if a drive cycle has been completed to prevent exactly what you want to do.

EDIT: Wow, those were some quick replies.

is that the OTC tool? Pretty cool little piece.

i bought it from mac like a year or so ago it was 50 bucks i have yet to use it

IF you unplug your battery, and your car needs to be plugged in (96+) then your car’s computer will need to reset monitors, and you will not pass inspection until all monitors are set.

depending on the year of vehicle you can up to 2 not be ready

does the light stay on all the time? take it to an auto parts store or rent a code reader and clear the code right before you get it inspected.

Depending on the vehicle theres a code for disconnecting the battery in like the last 250 cycles or something, also if it is emissions codes then even if the light gets cleared the codes stay as pending until its cycled out (after its fixed).

Come to the auto zone on south park and bailey, ill throw it on the reader for you. Anytime after 4 today. P.S. i can test some 96 and prior depending on the port itll either have the aldl or the eec which i have both

is this bob lol^

maybe, but if i claim that i know you does it mean that your stupid rubs off on me? :krazyjon:

That’s the same as clearing the code via unplugging the battery. The drive cycle checks are cleared when you clear a code via an OBD scanner and he’ll still fail the test.

oo worked for me.

Is your car a 95 like your SN suggests? Pre-OBDII cars are different.

lol no im not retarded, my talon was a 97 my mx6 is long, long gone.

jesus make a sticky about inspections. these threads drive me nuts as it has been answered a million times over.

96+ vehicle must have NO CEL on AND readiness monitors must be ready. Unplugging the battery will pwn you unless you can put some mileage on before the code comes back, clearing the codes also does not work as it resets all readiness monitors.

95- saftey, just pass it. brakes/lights/wipers/horns/bearings

Also do not get pissed if you take it somewhere and they won’t inspect it because of something you deem minute. Fines for these are not fun as Pauly can attest to. Nobody wants that on their inspection license/station. Nowadays most safety items are cheap and easy to fix, also what’s so bad about driving a safe car? It makes me feel better knwoing someone is driving a safe car on the same road as me.

Its pulling code P 1494
Leak Detection Pump Sw or Mechanical Fault

Anyone know what this means. lol
