ok so the story goes, i was up in innisfil going to a friends shop.
some guy made a illegal left turn i hit my brakes and hit his rim/drivers fender.
so the dude was being a asshat so i told him ima take it threw insurance, as you all mite know i just put a silvia front ned on and my insurance copany has been notified about it.
i take it to get appraised they say ok.
What damage he did was, he broke my headlight bracket, corner light bracket, put a bump in my aero bumper and broke the grille. the bumper was in need of work so i told them not to worrie about that realine my headlights and what not.
i get a call today from the body shop, sayin that for the silvia headlight threw nissan was $800.00 and the corner light $70.00 now as of htat price they dont want to fix it and write my car off. Bull shit i know.
Now I figure now that im going to write my car off what do i do?
i found htis http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/branding/mandatory.htm
i need to get another safety no prob, anyone know how it works with insurance companys and how much the price value is on a 1989 240sx?
BULL SHIT BULL SHIT BULL SHIT!
i will take the cheque, buy the car back and fix it on my own for cheaper. and probably get it painted also.
buddy,
first off, the only way the insurance company can write off the car is if over half the car is damaged and the value is more than half what the car is worth.
if i were you, id buy the lights yourself, and charge the insurance company for them.
and if they give u bookvalue
they are going to give you like 2 gz
trust me on this one.
Lol but honestly yeh them wanting to write off the car when I barely see any outside damage is just laughable.
Edit: When I registered my coupe a while ago the lady at the desk told me the book value was 1850 for a 93. Haha telling them I bought the car for 200$
i just bitched the shit out of them on the phone and htis is what i got, the lady said the private adjuster wants to write it off but she also said that if he wants to do that then she will send me a cheque of the value they think the damage is. original quote from the body shop was $1360.72. so she is contacting them now. and im gunna sit here and wait for the cheque and go get my car painted rsx-s black FTW!!!
the only reason I ask is you say he was being an asshat, the whole “lets call the police” card (since you weren’t in the wrong) could have played out in your favour.
i did, he was being a idiot, it was a 07 Honda civic. the guy was older. and being a idiot. i said hey, lets contact the police and i have a accident report and he got a 110.00 ticket for failing to stop for something i cant remember.
but yea i took it to a referred shop from my insurance company so i figured what they would quote would be legit and no less. so all im going to do is wait for the money, it probably was a good thing about this accident, i was just freaking out cause the insurance said they wanted to write it off, but now they told me they can cut a cheque and i can get it fixed privately
insurance companies each have different ratios for write offs.
their operating systems, if it is Mitchell ABS, will have a pie chart or bar graph that estimates the ACV… the rule of thumb is that once the estimate reaches 70% of ACV (actual cost of vehicle or some shti like that) it will get written off.
do not let your car get written off if you ever want to sell it again. Your title will be branded and your car will have the same history as though it was in a severe accident and rebuilt. the safety you were told to get is more than just a safety, its an inspection to make sure it was rebuilt properly, but i’m sure you can get it done easily enough.
your best bet is to call varun or local importers… get the headlight for $100 and sell it to the body shop for $200, they sell it to the Insco. for $300 and the car does not get written off and everyone is happy.
i have sold S13 body panels to body shops repairing club member’s cars in years past… they love it… you sell it cheap, they mark it up lots… yay we’re all happy.
im actually really glad that police had been involved and a accident report has been sent out, i was called at about 7:30 and told that instead of writting it off i will be written a nice cheque and can take it to a paersonal shop. im just really happy i know someone who does quality bodywork!
i didn’t know you can get a cheque from the insurance company to pay for the damages and get it done at another shop you know, instead of the shop that the insurance company recommended you.
if i had known that, i would just waited for the cheque to come in when i had my 100% not at fault accident back in june.
it was a very minor accident, but since it was 100% not my fault, might as well get it professionally worked on, at his expense. especially, if the dude isn’t going to try to give me any money for the repairs.
