I know, I know…this is a beaten down topic. But I have some good news. I’ve been searching for “hot Rod” “show car” insurance for some time now and until yesterday, I have hade no luck. It was either, “no, we don’t insure modified cars” or “We insure modified cars, but they have to be considered classics or 15 years old”. But I now have insurance which requires an appraisal of my car with documentation of mods. If something were to happen, they would cover me for the APPRAISED VALUE of the car with ALL the modifications included. Please guys, if you’re going to modify your car, tell your insurance company. I’ve heard way to many nightmares of people being dropped as soon as the adjuster saw the car was even lowered. Do it right, for peace of mind!
Keep in mind that this is directed to the true enthusiast who is willing TO PAY MORE for insurance to protect their hobby, investment, time and hard work.
heard about this company before and looked into it. then i realized 10 years of driving experience is still pretty far for me. 3rd year…
my friend’s insurance covers mods as well, but 5k a year without accident/tickets is pretty hefty. he now pays $12k a year with like 10 tickets or so. But i could ask how much driving experience is needed since he’s like 21 or 22
honestly i think they should just make insurance cheap at the start and if you mess up then they should make it higher. It’s stupid for them to say that younger people are the major cause of accidents, thats just a piss off to me.
Only the first insuarance company I went to required the 10 yrs experience, but they will only insurace cars that are 15 years old. So I went to a broker and went the route of facility insurance. With a clean driving record and no tickets, I was quoted 187 a month full coverage on my 99 maxima with all mods appraised at 14,000. I can also inform them on a monthly basis when the car will be stored, and the insurance gets dropped to 32 bucks a month. I explain it further down in the TMEC thread.
I didn’t think you could get liability that low anymore. Which requires 300,000/500,000 on auto. If you carry a 25/50 minimum, I hope you don’t have any assets that you want to keep. That will be burned through if someone has to spend a day in the hospital. in Wisconsin. I think Doyle is setting the lowest limit. You have to be able to cover the damages if you don’t carry insurance, but that doesn’t amount to shit. But, seriously, if you can’t afford to insure youself to cover what you may do to other people’s property and person, perhaps that means you can’t afford to drive. I know that sounds elitist, but, seriously, I don’t want some asshole running into me, putting me in the hospital for a month, and having a 10K insurance policy.
