Ok guys, well Im going to buy a Nissan 240 come Saturday, But I did a insurance quate, it says for 6 months would be 6,242.00 with full coverage including collision and comprehensive, Liability is 200,000 only, with out collision and comprehensive, its 4,816.00 for 6 months and a 15 surcharge is applied to my first year class of g2 driving. There is no way in hell I can afford that, So im wondering if people around my age (17) can name some insurance company’s that they use that they find are good/cheap,
Other Info: its going to be under my dads name, so that will save me allot of money too, and I took drivers ed.
I no I shouldent be paying more than 2000 a year I think:( so yeah any help would be appreciated.
I pay close to 3000 a year for my insurance, and that is only because my mom has to be on my insurance since she is a licensed driver that resides in the same house, and mine is the only car. My mom has had a couple of accidents and a ticket or two, so she raises my insurance by about $75 a month. I am 22 with my G.
I’m 26, and have had some serious trouble with tickets in the past. All of it is behind me, and I am now down to $2400/year. So expecting to pay $2000/year for a sports car at 17 years old is a little optimistic. The price they are quoting you is their way of saying “forget about it”. You could try getting a quote from RBC Insurance, they have been very good for me, but if your original quote is right, you aren’t going to see any huge difference with another company.
I wouldn’t roll with $200,000 liability and if I was your parent, I wouldn’t let you insure it unless it was $2,000,000 especially if I owned the vehicle.
Don’t buy the 240sx, back out of the deal and find something more affordable.
When calling for insuarance quotes, have the agent quote 5 cars of your choice.
Your better off with a 4 door at your age, plus you suck at driving.
When I first insured my 240SX as my first car nearly two years ago, it was $2600 for the year. Then again, I had my G license and was 21, nearly 22. I had never been insured under my parents before, and I had to hunt for that rate (that was $1 million liability, fire, and theft - no collision).
I’m with Belair Direct now, and I paid $1006 for the past year ($1mil liability only). My rates are going up a bit because I moved to Sudbury (somehow Waterloo is less accident prone?). Still, I can’t complain.
So, try Belair Direct. (www.belairdirect.com)
If not, I was with Echelon my first year.
Aight thanks guys, yeah I hear that 1 year makes a big difference, 17-18, when your 18 insurance goes down allot apparently, so If i have to I can wait the 1 year, I’m going to check out that belair direct insurance, thanks:D
also a different question, when you go to college/move out Can you still be on your parent(s) insurance?
I’m also 17 and i happen to be picking up an s13 hopefully in the next 2 weeks if i can get a deal with 240sex’s car. I’m going through “the personal” which is a corporate company. For leisure driving, (evenings and weekends) it would cost me 3500 a year. And if i’m going to uni in waterloo it’ll drop 30%. So… its not really 17 w/ 240 = bad… its GTA+17=bad
