Insurance on a 92' Nissan Skyline GTS?

Hey I am looking into buying a 92’ Nissan Skyline GTS. Does anyone know of a place in Toronto that will insure it? I am trying to find somewhere to get a quote so that i can get a price before i purchase the car. Any ideas?

certas can probably help you, ask them about their 19a policy. you will most likey need an appraisal though.

naa already tried Certas. They said no cuz of all the stuff with the fast and the furious they think the car is like that. Ppl in T.O own GTS’ where r they insuring them???

call one of those specialty insurance companies that insure “classic” or “collector” automobiles.

^^ Al, whos steve with?

Most companies will insure a RHD vehicle if you already have a policy with them. Due to the same reason though, pretty much no one will insure it if you’re not already a customer. Try your parent’s insco, prolly your best bet.

fuck if i know…wait, he told me awhile back, but i dont remember

gahhhh…

Get an appraisal and ask for a 19A policy.

You’re not going to get a decent rate unless you’re over 25 and have a sweet Driving record.

If you check out GTRCanada we’ve got a long ass thread about this very subject. Hardly anybody is taking non 17 digit vin’d cars.

In case you didn’t know this is how insurance works:
you call up, they ask for your vin, In each vin is a description of the car.

So for any 240sx it’s: Nissan, Year, 2 door, auto/manual, 2.4L 4cyc, color. From this they assign a risk rating to each vehicle type.

Then they take your license plug it in, the computer spits out a number for how much you owe them and they tack on their percentage.

With a non 17 digit vin you can’t do this. You have to deal with the underwriters. It’s a hassle and you pay though the ass.
So to avoid the problem.

For Ontario Re-vin:

you need to call
416-252-3441 and speak with Sheila. Ask her for a re-vin application.

Once you have filled out your application, and have paid the $450+gst fee, they will come out to your home to check the car out and begin to build a new vin number for you.

You pay first as they check the car out to see if it stolen or wanted by interpol.

After the inspection has been preformed, you will receive a new Ontario vin number a few weeks later.

this will help in insuring your car here as any insurance company can plop the vin into there system, because of this you will not have to deal with the underwriters(they’re the ones who refuse to insure you, ie 19A polocy).

to illustrate this, the Cefiro for instance, now the vin reads: Nissan, 1988, 4 door, 2L 6cyc. Manual, blue.

Call up any insurance co and get a quote on the spot. No more hassle.

hey thats alot of very usful information.

Me and my buddy both are with certas, 19 years old and have gts-t… If you have a clean bill I dont see why they will not insure you.

Really eh? i dont think the guy knew what he was talking about. I am gonna call certas again. Did u guys get an appraisal? How much r u guys throwing down for insurance? Im 19 as well and need to get insurance on my own. Just curious. Is there a specific insurance plan ur under?

19 with a G license and minimum liability with certas will run you from $230-250.
They do require some things:

Appraisal with 6 pictures.
valid Cert/ e-test
Drivers abstract “$10 at the ministry”
car need to be Ontario registered of course.
Also they also might want to know a few things about your past and it will all take 4-6 weeks before your car is insured.

oh tru tru ok cool thanks

instead of having to re-vin the car,you can go through sutherland insurance in guelph or use a company called optimum, they both gave me quotes for my gtir for 146 month, only catch is thjat if you crash the car they only pay out what your bill of sale says

coudlnt have put it any better myself, and ive been through the process personally

buddy of mines company just added 7 0’s to the end of his 10 digit vin and its considered an altima for paperworks sake

its a gtst 4 dr

statefarm

i just got a quote from certas today, and a 92 skyline worth $10,000 would be 171.84 a month for basic coverage, and 213.42 a month for comprehensive, and thats with a policy cancellation(due to suspended liscence) and 2 speeding tickets

How old are you? Thats not bad.

just turned 23 at the start of the month, and hell no, i was thinkin’ i’d be paying3-400 or more even, now i’ve just gotta check see if i can get financing… should be able to, i hope
