insurance spike after sr20det swap

has anyone thats done a sr20det swap actaully told their insurance company? if so how much more are you paying for insurance now

yeah I told them, but I was always on facility

did you use the “Search” Function

I personally told the MTO and my ins. broker that I went to a smaller displacement motor with a turbo…

MTO didn’t care as I remained with a 4clyd engine

“yes officer, I went with this low displacement turbo supported motor that is very economy, its low displacement so the turbo helps it from being too slow so its a normal economy motor”

i called my insurance company to inquire, and they said it was no problem as long as i didnt do any other “major” modifications, then i would have to notify them

actually that sounds kinda like what I told my ins broker so as to NOT COMMIT insurance FRAUD

What do they mean by BIG MODIFICATION? Isn’t engine swapping count as a BIG MOD?

As well, I wonder what will happen if we modded the car and get in an accident?

You’ll be lucky to walk away without a lawsuit. If the adjuster knows what to look for and figures out you have swapped your motor and done engine mods without reporting it then its considered insurance fraud = no coverage = $$$$ out of your pocket = sued by other party if youre at fault.

well if you didn’t tell them about the mods they have all the right in the world to deny a claim and/or charge you w/Insurance fraud

its technicly not illegal…when u insured ur car u tell them u have no mods ( most of the time its true)…then u put in ur sr…so ur not lieing…u had no mods when they asked u

Ignorance is not a valid defence.

You are bound by law (its in your insurance contract they send you when you sign up) that you are to notify them everytime you change something on your car. Same way you are supposed to get a new ownership if you paint your car a different colour.

ohh ok ic… well its still a valid deffence in court…

when i got pulled over with an expired temp…this guy i went to said when he goes to court about it he is going to use ways to fight it…and he said for example im gonna tell them u needed glasses and couldent see the expired temp…blah blah blah…

so im sure u can use the excuse that u insured the car a long time ago and u put parts in over time not knowing that it is supposed to be a stock vechicle…

and its still a stock motor for our vechicles,it still says 4 cyl on the ownership as well.

AND there is no law on turbos as long as u can pass emissions.

in which most ppl with srs cant 8) …

but ETHER way…whoever is right or wrong the point is when u insure the vechice u are suposed to state with honesty if u have mods or not. and if u put mods u are suposed to inform them as well.

ur best bet is to call with ur line blocked and tell them u want to put an sr in ur vechicle, also let them know its all stock ur just replacing it with a different year of vechicle motor…

BTW: insurence ppl dont know alot about cars and if they do there not gonna know wut an sr is and how much displacment it has and wut not.

Most people with SRs can pass emmisions, they just choose to ditch the emmision controls…

Let us know when you get booked though, how that ignorance plea works out

who said my emmision control parts are out …

and wut is it with ppl talking pure smack here im just stating a point…whether or not sumone has reported there sr to an insurence company is there problem and whether or not sumone has takin out all emission control conponents is also there problem

but dude u need to fix ur exhaust leak ur letting to much fumes in ur cab :wtcslap:

ohh and most ppl with sr’s maybe was an overstatement…but SOME ppl will not…

and y dont u care to share wut exactly u told ur insurence company?

My insurance company, “do you have an aftermarket deck or speakers?”
Me, “nope”
Insurance, “okay here’s your policy number XXXXXXX you’ll get a slip in the mail.”

I signed no contract, nothing.

same, no contract no nothing, they just checked to see if i had aftermarket rims and subs, no signature or anything.

so no change in rate at all???..i might tell mine then

I’m gonna tell my insurance that I’m getting a 240sx but with a SR/Turbo engine inside. Let’s see how much will they quote me…or actually will they insured me?

ok ask adn then post wt they said to u… i wanna know.
