iPhone 5 in the pisser, need repair/advice.....will pay!

So, this morning my girl decided that her iphone 5 belonged in the toilet (thankfully the toilet was pee free at that point). Amazingly, she knew to shut it off and put it in a coffee cup full of white rice. Granted this was only about 8 hours ago. Heres the result so far. Phone turns on and everything works as it should EXCEPT the actual radio signal to make the phone make calls and use data. Data transmission still works fine through wifi. Here is a pic of what it shows when on.

The service provider is Verizon. Any suggestions or fixes? I am willing to pay for repair if it can be fixed. For now, all I am going to do is it keep it off and in the rice for another day in hopes that the circuitry that controls the radio signal starts working again. I’m very handy with electronics and repair, I’ve just never messed with phones other than replacing a screen on one once.

Thanks in advance!

Actually its a little known fact that iphones have an internal “pee sensor” that prevents the iPhone from being used after an occurrence such as yours. It would appear there was pee in there after all so you’re probably gonna have to scrap it.

Lol. Is that a serious answer? If so that’s seriously crazy!

Capacitance uric acid sensor. Is able to detect the electromagnetic acidity of uric acid (pee). Would you want to buy / use a phone after it’s visited the porcelain swimming pool? Ingenious safeguard actually.

Try putting the phone, in the bowl of rice, in the fridge overnight. It’s basically just a big dehumidifier and the air currents inside will help get any remaining moisture out.

That’s totally true, I once got a golden shower while texting. Try mixing in one Tbl spoon of baking soda in with the rice, it should help balance out the acid.

The rice thing doesn’t’ work as well as people think, especially with the iPhone. Since it’s not under any sort of warranty, I would open it up and really let it dry out. It will likely need some new components after it’s swim though.

Put it in the oven on the lowest setting. I’ve done this multiple times with my kids phones. 120 degrees ideal.

I’m here to confirm the urine sensor. Been down that road myself…

Rice is definitely the worst way to get rid of liquid. Better lazy way would be to leave it on your dash on a warm day or a hot plate on low.Best way would be to take it apart and use contact cleaner and a tooth brush to scrub the circuit board, this is also the hardest.

Maybe remove a vent diffuser from an air duct and lay it inside and turn the heat on?

do ovens go as low as 120?

Sure do, how else do you make your beef jerky

I dropped some of my beef jerky in the toilet (no pee though). Should I use the oven or the heat register?

LOL at all the pee sensor shit. LMAO. Also LOL at going all Uncle Ben and putting waterlogged electronics with a non removable battery in rice. Depending on what board elements/traces were connected by the water…you’re most likely fucked. I wouldn’t ever trust my data or ability to communicate to a scuba phone. My 2 cents.
