With the new phones being released, I disagree.
It’s better depending on what perspective you look at it from. Techy or end user. As a techy, nothing apple makes is leaps and bounds better than anything Google or Microsoft makes (Android and PC) and I prefer both of their products over anything Apple makes. Although, I am a little more forgiving on the phone and the ipod as they are priced accordingly unlike their computers which are ridiculously priced. $2300 for a powerful apple laptop? I can get the same specs and just as good an OS (since I’m a techy and know how to use Windows properly) for probably $1500. Good example of you paying more for the brand/name. To me, it’s very similar to Infiniti or Acura and BMW. I’d rather get a TL or G than a 3 series as you’ll pay less for the first two than for the latter (to get comparably equipped vehicles) and get the same experience. But people vehemently deny that the other car makers offer the “driving experience” of a BMW. Very similar to iPhone users saying nothing compares to the world of Apple and it’s ‘experience’.
As an end user, I have to give Apple kudos. BECAUSE their stuff is so limited, it DOES…just…work. I can’t blame or knock that.
Regardless, as the mobile manager at my company, I will be playing with these and these are going to be my first real foray into the world of Apple. We shall see.
I dunno why, but I tried rooting my EVO and just ran into all sorts of issues with the HBOOT crap. This was a while ago, and I’m still unclear on a lot of aspects. I just never got back into it.
Even without root, I’m very happy with my Android OS but not the EVO hardware. My first EVO (which I lost) was flawless. Perfect hardware without defect. My replacement is a POS.
The iphone fucking sucks and so does verizon. I’ve had no problems with android or At&t ever. I even get high speed data way the fuck out here in the sticks.
I took my time and rooted my co-workers EVO. There are quite a few different ROMs out there. But it does run really well stock.
I’m actually gonna give it another try. Currently backing up all my info and following this HowTo: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html
I don’t know anything about that forum, but I got all of my information, my ROM, and an add on keyboard from XDA. Check it out there if you have trouble.
I have been thinking of picking up the evo when sprint brings 4g to the area. But now …I am tempted by this though.
Dunno why I had issues with the recovery and HBOOT throwing errors a few months ago but used unrEVOked3 and everything went fine today. I’m now rooted and currently setting up my phone.
Very nice.
What ROM you on? I’m going with Fresh EVO 3.5.0.1 for my first one.
FroShedYo.
Oh, looks nice. I like the lock screen.
Yeah I dig it dude. Sucks I’m still using an Eris but worse things have happened. One thing I hated about this rom was the keyboard that came with it… but I found the stock eris keyboard and I’ve been nothing but happy with this so far.
I love way simple minimalist things… and this fits the bill perfect. I was messing with CPUboost a bit to extend battery life but slowing it down a lot when the screen is off fucks with more than you’d think. Calls are hard to answer, answering texts sucks… lol. Pandora sucks to use. etc. My battery life was sick though.
Good point, which is why a share runs over $340 now! I say it goes even higher after the iPad 2G comes out…
Yeah I wouldn’t want to be the early adopter on this one. Maybe wait a few months to hear how things will work with the current Verizon 3G network. I’m glad the iPhone will be offered on Verizon though, it does appear to have the best overall coverage (though maybe not high speed as you said).
In the past couple months it peaked near $38 then came down to $36 level. If you believe the overall effect of VZ carrying the iPhone 4 will be a good one, maybe it’s a good time to pick up some stock for the (relatively) short term?
I have no money to invest, and with it already being up I don’t see any huge advantages coming from investment in VZ. The long term is beneficial, especially if you can get in low. The dividend they pay is pretty fair.
Who cares anyway, I can guarantee at least 90% of the people that own a iPhone, Droid or Blackberry DO NOT use it for what it can be actually capable of, myself included with my Droid X, people just want the iPhone because like stated earlier, its an iPhone, its a popular name in phones and people are trendy whether its about cars, clothes or cell phones thats just how people are.
IMO if you want the phone go and buy it if you feel you must have it but I know I won’t be getting it even with my 2 year discount only 4 months away.
:rofl
Up for my verizon renewal tomorrow, cant wait to get the Droid X
