JDM-Project: KA-T Update (NOT 56k SAFE!)

Hey everyone what’s up.

Well the day finally arrived that I could do my motor swap and turbo install. It’s been a long time coming and there’s still a few things to finish off as well as tunning but, everything works.

I’d like to first thank Phillip of JDM Place for sponsoring this project and providing an SAFC, SR 370cc Injector’s, S15 Sidemount Intercooler and an HKS Turbo Timer. As well as paying for all the items listed below. There is no way I could have done it for a long time with out him.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH my friend!

As well there are a few other people out there I would like thank and here goes in no particular order,

Justin, aka jjm, for the Stainless Steel Lines, getting all the fittings needed, oil pan return bung welded on and swapping/installing my new motor and turbo system.

Varun, aka slipperlysilvia, for the Turbo, Turbo Elbow, Walboro Pump and MR Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Brian, aka Bero aka Seatbelt Guy, for the SSAutochrome Manifold. He gave me his now as I was doing everything this weekend. No worries man, yours will be here for the day you are doing your set up.

Bing, aka Bing, for the GReddy Type S BOV.

Victor, aka JDMRIDE, for the MR Turbo, Air/Fuel and Oil Pressure Gauges.

Nik, aka RacerX, for the SR Downpipe.

John, aka Toronto_240sx, for the discount on ALL the gaskets I needed.

Adam, aka Shift_KADET, for the BOV flange.

Tylor, aka DevilishS14, for the newer KADE Motor.

Thanks again to all of you who helped make this possible. I don’t think I forgot anyone but if so please let me know and you’ll be mentioned.

Now for some pic’s,

Out!

Empty engine bay. I gave it a little cleaning at this point,
http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576974.jpg

GRRRRRRRRRR, Dam %@*&in oil line! This actually would give us serious issues later on. We did figure a solution though and now everything is fine,
http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576975.jpg

Manifold and Turbo on,
http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576977.jpg

The turbo being used in Phase 1 of this project is a stock SR T25,

Manifold, turbo, outlet, elbow and coolant feed/return lines on,
http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576984.jpg

Justin simply bent the coolant lines and pointed them in the direction we needed. Then attached the hoses,
http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576985.jpg

The lines were attached using the stock locations on the motor under the throttle body,

New motor coming along and looking good,

Oil feed line attached,

So at this point after approximately 5hrs ish we had the new motor ready to be attached to the tranny. Then the whole thing could be put back in to my car. It was from here we had little hic-ups happen and some issues we needed to solve. First attached the clutch to the motor and forgot to put the transmission backing plate, D’HO  . Then we had prob’s putting everything back in as the tranny kept hitting the power steering lines, knocked the oil return line off of the oil pan and just generally getting the motor back in.

So now it’s after 9pm ish the motor is in, things are reattached and we realized the cat bolts are somewhat welded on the cat  . So another 45min’s to an hour to drill them out. A bolt broke on the turbo elbow while attaching the down pipe and tightening the 2 or the 3 bolts and 2 nuts on the turbo/elbow were not the easiest.

So now it’s after 12 when we finally had everything done and started the motor. YES SHE STARTED FIRST TIME    . It sounded smooth, the turbo was running but the wastegate is left open untill I tune the car so I’m not boosting as yet. However, everything was running fine.

Now we go to bleed the clutch and the nipple broke off the slave cylinder.

So after all this work I could’nt drive home in my car. As you also noticed at this point there are no more pic’s. We both were to mad and tired to worry about them. I jumped in Justin’s colt and drove home. Everything will be done between today and tomorrow though. I’ll have some more pic’s of the finished product at that point.

Well take care everyone.

HAHA, no problem bruce! just aslong as i get a manifold back soon. and in new or… better… condition
lol

Congrats on finally getting it in man! i think i’m owed a ride too dude.

see ya soooooooooooooooooon

wow that looks great bruce! u definitely gotta take me for a ride when i come down to ur area

maybe this is a dumb question but whats so jdm about a KA project?

Reading is such a lost art.

Bruce, she looks good man. Can’t wait to see it in person and see what she can do! :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you finally got it in and RUNNING!

Cheers.

oh i see, didnt make the connection the first time lol

Awesome work Bruce! I hope you and a few guys can make it out to practice on the 9th!

You didn’t use nearly enough liquid gasket…

good work bruce , it looks good , hopefully she goes like stink

I’m curious to see pics of the exhaust and intercooler plumbing.

Glad to see your project finally happening.

359KM motor.

Hope it lasts.

Damnit read people! His OLD motor had 359K km’s on it… the pics clearly show that motor being removed! :bash:

Well it doesn’t mention that a ‘new’ or ‘different’ motor was being put in.

I was under the impression that the motor was taken out to be prepped
and put back in.

Edit:
Ok, just re-read it. :owned:

I usually let pics do the talking. :o

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words.

I drove the car home today and she seems fine. Still a few little things to finish off and what not but overall, I’m very happy  .

I took a few more pic’s that I’ll host/post a little later on. The piping is a little gheto for now as there’s no IC in yet so it’s just running from the turbo to the throttle body. Also the car is VERY dirty right now and I want to get it washed.

Over the week I will be doing a couple more things and once EVERYTHING is in and tunned, I’ll post up some final pic’s.

Well thanks again guys and I’ll keep you all posted.

Take care.

Looking good Bruce, looking good my friend… :thumleft:
I hope it all works out good and the project goes nice and smooth. I can’t wait to see it when it’s done.

Nice action Bruce, you gota take me for a boot when she is ready!

Looks wicked so far

Hey guys.

Well I finally had some time to install my smic. Many thanks to Jesse for a perfect conditioned and fully complete system. I also put my newly painted valve cover on too.

Here are a few pic’s,

An overall shot of my engine bay to start.
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987Full_Engin_Bay_Pic_1-med.JPG

Now in this shot, you can see how I used my old DOHC cold air intake pipe and adapted it for use with the smic. The throttle body piece pinched my rad hose and had no hook up for the oil resercualting tube and I did’nt want a $385.00 ticket for using a breather filter. So I improvised. As well, I cut the fan shroud so everything is free and clear and there’s no chance of rubbing.
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987DOHC_Cold_Air_Intake_Adapted_For_SMIC_Use-med.JPG

The stock hole in the fender was enlarged and here are both the hot and cold pipes from the smic. Everything is nice and tight and the metal edges have be bent down and tuck against the bottom of the fender area so it won’t scratch or cut in to the piping.
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987SMIC_Hot_Cold_Pipe_Pic-med.JPG

Now was’nt this convienent. The other day my liner came lose and the tire made this hole. So now it helps keeps the air flowing right through the intercooler and makes those temp’s go down a little more. HAHAHA, could’nt have planned it better my self.
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987IC_In_Wheel_Well_Pic_1-med.JPG

A front shot, through my bumper, at the intercooler. It’s held secure by two bolts in the engine bay fender area and two on the side attached to a bracket. She’s nice and tight, just how we like it. tee hee
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987IC_In_Wheel_Well_Pic_2-med.JPG

Well as I’m sure you can see my valve cover changed a little. I had never painted things really and I’m not the greatest but I think this turned out very nice.

http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987Valve_Cover_Pic_2-med.JPG

Finally, one last full shot of my engine bay. Still needs a few more things to finish the overall look, and an engine shampoo but it’s gettting there.
http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/data/500/10987Full_Engin_Bay_Pic_1-med.JPG

I still need a dyno session of course but at least I’m almost getting ready to hit FULL boost and have some real fun. I’ll keep all of you posted.

Take care.

Easy 8)

Well I’m quite impressed. Get us some dyno #s. :wavey:

Thanks G, I really appreciate the kind words.

No worries I will be posting up the #'s from the dyno as soon as I get there.
