I have a chance to get one of these sets, for about the same price. I’m going to be using the car as a daily driver, most likely with a little autox and maybe some drifting…
anyways, any insight would be greatly appreciated as to which set would be best!
HAs retailed for slightly less than HE’s, but essentially the HE’s are for drift, and the HAs not so much. They are softer, but past that I don’t know too much. The HAs are spring load hieght adjust only… so you cannot mess with preload, but you can on the HEs.
The FLT-1s don’t have damping adjustment, and like the HA, they are spring load hieght adjust only. My personal preference are the HAs, they seem better built, plus you can have any TIENs revalved… whereas you will need to buy whole new dampers for the JICs.
Not too sure about the Kei Office, but I would wager that they have both damping adjustment and can do preload.
So the HE’s and K-Os are going to be made mainly for drift, but will have the most features. The HAs and JICs are the cheaper models but are probably better for set and forget street driving.
Personally I think the HEs or HAs will serve you best, depending on your primary driving style… they are easy to repair and have operations in North America if you needed anything. HAs will work just fine for AutoX, but if you are going to get serious about drifting, go with the HEs.
being able to adjust the lower perch is more valueable to most peope here i think then they realise, as you can slam the car without affecting your preload which is in my opion very important…
on coils without adjustable lower mounts, you can not mess with preload without at the same time messign with the height… if your a fan of slammed and still wanna have a ncie ride, adjustable lower mounts are the only way to go
TEIN makes awesome awesome coilovers despite what anyone says ive had a few different types of coilovers and ridden in tons of different cars and cars that are equipped with TEIN always ride the best to me and make the least noise, and last hte longest as long as you keep white grese on the threads.
I have Tein Flex coilovers and they ride pretty good for full coilovers. Then again, Flex are only 6f 5r spring rates and the only other car with coilovers i’ve rode in was a S13 with 9f 7r D2s lol.
Hey Sasha, what threads are you talking about? The threads that you adjust the height and preload on?
I am in agreement with Ted and Sasha, I would go for the Teins so you have the ability to lower the car without effecting preload. I have Type Flexs and for what I paid I am happy so far.
Thanks for posting this tidbit Sasha. I’ve never looked in to it but always wondered if there was a proper way to protect those threads. Mine are NASTY right now, I had just planned to use maybe compressed air or something to hopefully get all of the little stones and dirt out of there in hopes to not damage the threads on the aluminum rings which I’m sure would get wrecked from a single little pebble stuck in there.

yup, clean them nice and then spray white lithium grease on them every 3-4 months if you can, if not whenever you have the wheels off.[/quote]
