Jumped head first into the deep end at the JDM kiddie pool.....

well enough of the :snky: wtf is it? lol.

951 turbo setup would be pretty hilarious in there too. engine, torque tube and rear trans. that way youd have to keep less parts around.

Brian

well he could I bet hes got a spare 951 engine chilling around lol

thats what i was thinking.

Brian

Brian, I don’t want to say until it’s in my possession. Tim, 3 actually and 2 torque tubes.

Spent most of the day in the garage, lots of progress however it doesn’t look like it, heh. Most of the firewall and trans tunnel have been taken down to bare metal (or close to it) with sand paper or a wire wheel. All of the insulation is gone. Most of the areas that will need to be clean for welding the floors in have been prepped as well. I’ve got a few more hours to spend on it, especially behind the pedals but it’s coming along nicely.

Worked on the spare tire area and hatch are a bunch. Cleaned up some rust and removed a few bits of destroyed sound proofing. Primed the well and then used rubberized undercoating on it. It had a bit of rot just in the 1/4" or so around the drain grommet. Sorry I forgot to take in progress pics, it’s still drying in the last photo.

Also rolled the car up onto my scales, weights as follows:

LF: 271 RF: 271
LR: 404 RR: 392

Total: 1338
F/R: 40.5%/59.5%

This is with no engine, no floors, no transmission, no driveshaft, no interior, w/fuel tank, full suspension, steering, brakes, metal rear bumper, all lights, ZG Flares, IMSA 3 Piece wing, full glass, all metal bodywork. I believe my shell is extremely clean and contains no bondo except for on the hatch (if you care about how much bondo weighs)

totally understand. i have a few projects in the works but i dont share them unless im actually going to do them.

Brian

nice work that’s a lot of rust bet the car will look great when its finished

what kind of time frame are you looking at for completion

I honestly do not have a time frame. I have two project cars lined up for a very relaxed schedule. (240z and '73 BMW E9). However both of them are not priorities and are a stress reliever/end of the day type thing for me. The e9 is packed away in storage and the Datsun has the front spot in the garage right now. I’ve also got a few other projects to help with (friends/family). Combine that with the Porsche, which is a priority, and these are really just for fun “whenever” type cars.

So to sum that up, I really dont care when it’s done shrug

Oh yeah, and just an FYI, that is virtually NO RUST for a Datsun Z car. My chassis is outrageously clean compared to most of the other ones out there.

However I am about to head out to the garage to work on it

you homo.

If you didn’t live all the way out in roch I would come out and throw tools at you.

Just tell Erin to slap me again.

I should be out there sometime this week. I’ll give you a ring.

you have been mofo’ed

you’d probably save yourself a lot of frustration by just blasting the whole floor pan

I dont follow?

I didnt want to strip the headliner and some of more difficult interior panels out, and it was mostly solid other than the floors which as eluded to above PT welded new sections in for me.

More pics soon.

I know what motor is going in it…a turbo sho motor!

hopefully with a quality transmission…

I’d rather dead myself and give gsx all my cars than use anything “sho” related in any car I EVER own.

well…get to it. i always have room for cars…looking good

that sounds like a pretty good deal.

it SHOULD be an rb going into this car. prolly wont happen tho…

Ok, so some pics from this weekend hanging out down in Philly since I just got home.

Some paper template action.

Starting to get it done, PT had to make a ton of cuts to get the parts bent back and then rewelded to get the floors to fit the contours of the trans tunnel.

Get’r Done.

PT’s SICK EBRAKE DRIFT INITIATION.

Floors in, have some patches to do up on the firewall still and the subframe connectors to the rear of the car (for extra stiffness) along with a few other minor things, but the bright side is I can start doing wiring and putting stuff back in very soon. PT also welded up all the spot weld holes and random stuff in the engine bay for me which I need to grind down flush so the engine bay can be painted satin black.

Big thanks to PT for slaving on my car all Sunday.

Oh, totally forgot at one point I’m grinding away on the driver’s side, PT is welding away on the passenger’s side and little did I know the undercoating caught on fire under the car in the trans tunnel. Aparently flames were licking the back of my coat from the shifter hole in the trans tunnel while PT was pounding them out with his welding gloves. unbeknown to me.
