Knocked out a few hours on the car tonight, there is about 25 pounds of metal/rust and sound deadening under the car. :lol: Spent a ton of time with a mask, gloves, scraper and propane torch working on removing the interior tar, but I had to use a heat gun in some slightly tighter/more sensitive areas for safety’s sake. (I know, me using caution, hard to believe.)

Some floor rust on the driver’s side which has separated the floor from the rear frame rail extension. I’ve gone under and looked above and the frame rail extension under the floor board is in mint shape despite the passenger’s side one being all banged up (not that it matters as I’m putting bad dog replacement/subframe connectors in).

Progress.

If all goes well I’ll be at PT (turbojettaMKIV)'s house first weekend in december so he can weld in the floors, subframe connectors and the small flush bits on the firewall and the rear 1/4 panel/liners. Then some POR15 work and the interior goes back together while I start on wiring :slight_smile:

glad to see more progress. You’re trailering it all the way to PA just for some floors? seems kinda outta the way…

It’s not just for the floors. We’re doing a ton of shit and I was going down that weekend anyway to party and go shooting.

Trimming away more of that fat… err rust and sound deadening. That’s about 2/3’s of what I removed today. Weighs somewhere around 25lbs.

Where I left it tonight, back was killing me from being hunched inside the car for a few hours. Trimmed the passenger’s side all the way down, no more rust over there. The driver’s side under floorboard support was in great shape, so it stayed (though slightly cut off at the rearward section. I also left the seat support in, although it wont be there I needed a bit of structure left in the car for moving it. I have a bit more to do on the driver’s side and the entire firewall and inner rockers needs to be stripped still. I have the trans tunnel mostly done though it still needs a chemical bath.

951 turbo setup would be pretty hilarious in there too. engine, torque tube and rear trans. that way youd have to keep less parts around.
