Dyno vs Strip. Both points are valid. The purpose in my mind for the dyno is to get the tune as close to optimal as possible as quickly as possible. With the dyno, we can do a run, email it to the tuners, have hoim tweak it and send it right back to run it again. If we take it to the strip, we datalog, it gets sent to the tuner, then back to the track. For the tune purpose way too much time.
As for the strip, it will be there to see what it will do “Real World”. It will not be at the strip often as the car was not built for the strip. There are still way too many weak links on this to be a 1/4 mile car. The autotrans, the bottom end, the head all need to be improved. I also have no illusions as to what type of numbers I can expect of the car. It should surprise a few folks but there are much better platforms to build a 1/4 mile car than a Focus Wagon. My goal on the track when I go is to bracket race. If the car is consistent at what ever times I run then I will be satisfied. I’ll never be the fastest with this car, I just want to be consistent. I am way too old to have anything to prove.
The car is a road rally car, built to drive from point A to point B as quickly and safely as I can and sort of fly under the radar. It is not uncommon for me to drive 1,000 miles from a Friday to Sunday. So if you look at what I have done to the car it all makes sense.
