sweet .
Where are the pics god damn it!
OJ you know he’s a lazy son of a bitch
we didn’t take any that i know of…
pretty busy day today. had to go hunting for a few things which set up back a bit. i’d expect it to be running tomorrow though.
BTW it turns out we’re retards when it comes to heater hoses… I’ll explain when you stop by, you’ll get a lol out of it.
you act like you’re going to be dynoing a top fuel car!!!
synapse i think is the most safe and accurate around.
Yes, but you don’t understand the customer I have. This will be this guys “top fuel” car. We are looking for real numbers, so a chassis dyno may be better to give us a feel for how the car reacts with the wheels and tires on. I don’t know whether those are calibrated to include the additional rotational mass of the wheel and tire. Maybe I’m mistaken but won’t taking the wheels off really affect the result? I really don’t know anything about dynos, so I’m looking for advice on the most accurate/real world device out there.
If you want “real world #'s”, take it the the drag strip, plain and simple. Its been said numerous times, a dyno is a tuning device/ego builder.
Yea the dyno doesnt mean shit really
+1.
Dyno vs Strip. Both points are valid. The purpose in my mind for the dyno is to get the tune as close to optimal as possible as quickly as possible. With the dyno, we can do a run, email it to the tuners, have hoim tweak it and send it right back to run it again. If we take it to the strip, we datalog, it gets sent to the tuner, then back to the track. For the tune purpose way too much time.
As for the strip, it will be there to see what it will do “Real World”. It will not be at the strip often as the car was not built for the strip. There are still way too many weak links on this to be a 1/4 mile car. The autotrans, the bottom end, the head all need to be improved. I also have no illusions as to what type of numbers I can expect of the car. It should surprise a few folks but there are much better platforms to build a 1/4 mile car than a Focus Wagon. My goal on the track when I go is to bracket race. If the car is consistent at what ever times I run then I will be satisfied. I’ll never be the fastest with this car, I just want to be consistent. I am way too old to have anything to prove.
The car is a road rally car, built to drive from point A to point B as quickly and safely as I can and sort of fly under the radar. It is not uncommon for me to drive 1,000 miles from a Friday to Sunday. So if you look at what I have done to the car it all makes sense.
i feel the same way lol
Nice Focus!! ^
synapses dyno still simulates a load while driving. the dynapacks are perfectly fine for tuning this car spot on. whats depressing is that the majority of the focus community uses the dynojet 248c as their standard which CANNOT IMPOSE A LOAD, so the tune would have to be taken to the street to adjust load cells which were never touched while on the dyno. im not saying this as some sort of synapse fanboi… im saying it as a previous focus owner who had my car on synapses dyno… bring it there, trust the machine and enjoy the car thereafter. there wouldnt be so many 500+hp hondas out of that shop if the dyno wasnt accurate and they didnt know what they were doing…
Gtech pro.
i think anyone who has been at the shop the past couple of months has heard this been said at least once!hahah!!
its been a long road with this project but it will definitely be awesome to see vince surprise a couple people!
keep up the good work jay!
We’re moving along, quite nicely. Today we began the steps to datalog the car and have our findings checked by none other than the best focus tuners around, Randy at FocusSport. We ran into a snag when trying to get the SCT to read the UEGO output. I believe there is something up with the connector/pinout of the DB-9 we had to butcher. Tomorrow begins more cleanup/troubleshooting and oh yeah, here’s some of those pics I have been promising:
Despite the staggering amount of parts, they all made it onto the car and are working perfectly right out of the box! This is a very well designed kit and my hat goes off to those guys at FocusSport.
and what have we learned from this whole ordeal …dont trust a guy named Riccardo
Looks Good!
