because DSL uses the unused wires inside your phone line (I believe a phone only uses 2 of them) you need to install filters on any phones you might have as it will mess with the signal. It also includes cable box (if a phone line runs into it), satallite box, answering machine, fax machine, ect. (basicly anything that a phone line runs into, minus the modem)
