Keeping rust from forming on rotors during storage?

Car is being parked over the winter. No climate controlled storage.

Is there anyting I can spray on the rotors that will keep rust from forming/building up?

nah don’t worry about it.

They are going to oxidize no matter what you do.

Just wait until spring, when you hit it the first time, it will sweep off off that oxidation.

Yeah do a couple hard breaks 70-10 mph, don’t fully stop. do that 5 times then drive an open road for for a while and let the brakes cool

Boat US sells an anti-corrosion spray by penzoil. I’ve been using it on my boat, that gets stored under a tarp next to my house, for years and it works great. You’d have to clean them real well with brake cleaner in the spring though.

If you store it indoors the rust should be very minimal.

:word:

just “rebed” them when You take it out in spring.

NAPA sells this de-squeak stuff that you spray directly on the rotors. The intended purpose is to spray on the rotor and fill in any imperfections in the metal…but it doesn’t quite work like it should there.

I figured it would work best as a rust inhibitor, so I tried it last winter and had great succsess!

You have to pull the wheel though. It is a graphite style paint that will keep the rust off, and it acts like a paint so be careful of overspray.

I would rather have rust on my rotors than an oil on my brake pad.

Rotors are cheap, pads are not.
