I have an 99 Chevy Malibu and my trunk leaks awful. I’m thinking i need to replace the trunk seal. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem so they can give me so advice as to if replacing the trunk seal is going to fix the issue right, or if there is something else I’ll need to do. Any advice is much appreciated.
Same problem on an '82 mercedes 300D. The trunk seal has pulled up from the corners and water is getting into the trunk at both corners. I’ll need to clean up the spots and use black silicone adhesive. But I’ll need a warm day. That should take care of your problem too.
I believe the malibu has the same setup as the grand ams. Take the carpet off the right side of the trunk, and you will see a vent with rubber flaps. Mine was leaking though that. It was so bad before I realized that I had my entire spare tire compartment full of water, and every time I would stop it would flow into the back seat.
ya it is the same setup. water is thrown up by the tire. but idk how to block that off. my spare compartment fills rather quickly as well. so how did you solve your problem??
I cracked out the vent with a hammer. Cut a piece of plastic to cover the hole. Glued it on, and then caulked around the inside and outside. Its not the best way…because there’s no release for pressure when closing doors, but I’ve had it that way for over 2 years and havent had a problem yet.
you can always leave your window slightly cracked as to release cabin pressure. jus a suggestion. thanks for the advice i’m going to prob have to try that.
Did you end up replacing the trunk liner as well or were you able to save it?
holla son.
what kind of shape is the trunk seal in? lemme take a look at it tomorrow during school
yes sir. i think it is in alright shape but ya never know for sure.
I hated the leaky trunk in my old car. GL with the fix.
thank you i’ll prob need it. lol
Sit in the trunk with a flashlight and have a buddy use a hose to see where the water is coming in. Go from there.
