LOL: arrested for transporting gas in home depot buckets

Police arrested a 47-year-old New York man accused of filling up 30 five-gallon Home Depot buckets with gasoline on Saturday night.

According to investigators, Yunus Latif, of Richmond Hill, collected money from his neighbors, bought gas at a Valero station almost 80 miles away in Orange and planned to bring it back to his neighborhood, where they had no power and gas.

Since Superstorm Sandy hit last Monday, drivers from New York and New Jersey have been heading north to get gasoline.

On Friday, police said gas lines in Greenwich were growing because New Yorkers were stopping on Interstate 95 to fill up, causing a drain on the local supply.

This time, a New York driver made the journey further north for gas.

Just before 9 p.m. on Saturday in Orange, police found buckets filled with 4 gallons each stacked inside Latif’s van and it looked like the lids were beginning to expand, officials said.

That owner of the Valero gas station, located at 347 Boston Post Road, was arrested as well.

Police claimed Muniruzzaman Gomosta, 41, should have known what Latif was doing since he came into the store several times to pay for buckets of gasoline.

Gomosta said the gas station was very busy and he did not realize that Latif was filling five-gallon buckets with gas, said police.

Both men were issued a misdemeanor summons for violation of regulation concerning flammable or combustible liquids.

Latif and Gomosta are expected to appear in court on Nov. 19.

The gas was returned to underground storage tanks, police said.

That could have been a pretty epic fireball.

There are so many better way to transport 120 gallons of gas. Namely two 55gallon drums that are legal to transport gasoline in.

Wow! Smart guy. If only he lit up a cig as well. lol

Good intentions but bad idea, it just doesn’t seem like the right time to arrest somebody

the smell inside the van must have been overwhelming

Seems about right for a Home Depot customer.

Even those little red gas cans are not really DOT legal are they? I wondered about this when the storm hit but I would never imagine someone using those pails, holy crap!!!

cry me a river…of gas

So when the cops seized the gas how did they legally transport it???

They are but I believe they need to be transported in an open truck bed?

Great question.

As for smell, I’m sure the guy was getting stoned off the gas fumes. lol

With Rising Gas Prices, shown in the chart below…It’s a good idea…It’s been done though.

Friendly reminder… take it or leave it, but a good time to mention it.

Please for the love of god, take your gas cans off the back of a pickup truck, out of the back of a mini van, out of the trunks of a car, back of the hatch of a wagon…etc. I cant harp on this enough. Coworker has 2nd/3rd degree burns over 60% of his body from static electricity igniting the fumes from the gas as he was filling the cans on the back of his pickup… it caught fire, started him on fire, destroyed the back end of the pickup truck and cause him to be in the hospital for 3 months.

For those that think you are going to be fine, sure you might… but it just takes one time.

Plastic bed liner = boom.

I imagine they were all he could get his hands on to put gas in. I’m sure there was a run on gas cans and such like everything else when suddenly everyone had to fill generators.

I guess he took the “Homer’s All-Purpose Bucket” a little too literally. They need a Homer’s Gas Bucket.

Really? http://www.strangehistory.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/egg.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AdPEoDIBepY/TbX47mz-EHI/AAAAAAAAAB4/PtiQm0njNUQ/s1600/TeamOGearBeingKnighted.jpg

HAHAHA

Yeah, thanks… pretty sad on that one.

someone needs to compile a list of yammy-isms

Lol, he should have just pulled the fuel tanks out of the 3rd gen Camaros that were probably in his front lawn and stacked those up in his van.
