So when i got my car on the road 3 months ago and the rotted power steering lines busted. Its was the 2 lines that come off the rack and go back to the hicus. Its a 91 hatch and i heard in this case you can loop it at the rack so the out line loops straight back to the in line. I saw a diagram that told me the hicas fail safe would keep the rears straight untill i swap the sub frame but it would be nice to have power steering in the front. Yeah yeah power steerings for pussys but i just read a thread on going straight direct and it seeem like more work than just looping the lines. Two questions…
Do you think my pump is done now as its been running dry this whole time?
Really not sure, best way is to hook it up and find out. Good chance it will be dead since there’s been no lubrication.
Are the lines that go to your front rack still intact? If so you can just do the ghetto rig, run a line from the Hicas return on the reservoir to the Hicas output on the pump. That’s how I did it, I don’t have a picture at the moment, put I modified the Hicas fitting on the pump and just triple clamped it onto some high pressure line and ran that the reservoir.
and u dont have to change whole subframe to stop hicas in the back…just buy a hicas lock bar. and yea finding a non-hicas power steering pump is a pain
I know i can bar the hicas but i just want to gutt it out and swap to a non hicas sub frame. The ones ive seen for sale are cleaner than mine anyway and sometimes powder coated for a good price. Plus less to go wrong.
Clutchfire, i guess there not a part that can be just bought then eh?
Might try the first idea but im too dumb to figure it out and cant find a good enough diagram.
I would expect not. At this point you might be hard pressed to find this part at NISSAN. As well this is a part that is not being made anymore either.
So i really got the second last new set in Canada. not sure if they meant Canada or all suppliers but i assume you could still get it imported from some other spot around the world. They just said its the second last set they can get a hold of and it isn’t being made anymore.
if your running the system dry right now you may be better off just getting a non HICAS pump and removing it all together like you wanted. Your pump is most likely done. I seen one of these pumps up in the for sale section.
