Mandatory Illuminated Tail Lights In Canada

Adding to the mandatory driving lights;

The safety standard requires all new cars sold in Canada as of 2021 to be more visible in low-light conditions, and will require manufacturers to build vehicles that do one of the following:

  • Have daytime running lights and tail lights come on when the vehicle instrument panel is illuminated and the vehicle is in operation;
  • Automatically turn on the headlights, tail lights, and side marker lights in low-light conditions; or
  • Keep the driver’s instrument panel dark so the driver knows to turn on all the lights.

Getting harder to sneak around the neighborhood up north.

More things to break!!! More modules, more computers, more more more!!

Yet lax Maple syrup laws.

I vote to keep the cluster lights off. Fucking no one knows to turn their lights on any more. I swear I pass at least 5 people every day on the way home in winter that should have their lights on and dont.

I think just giving cars all auto-headlights/taillights is an easy and chaep fix now-a-days. You can get light sensors for pennies. I actually think this would be a cheap & quick project to give old cars auto lights.

Also some new vehicles don’t really have clusters anymore. My truck is just one big LCD screen. Back lit 24/7.

Well then it needs to be one or the other. If the dash it always lit then it requires auto lights.

Else keep the cluster lights off so these idiots might have a clue if they look up from their phones long enough to see the cant read the speedo.
