walker, if you try to poach this ill stab you… but I know you have enough bikes… so LOL
Thoughts on this dudes? BUyer is older, seems reasonable, and he stated everything works. I was thinking about taking the trailer out this weekend to scoop it up for around a G.
I don’t think it’s worth $1600. it was only imported for two years, parts are scarce and it’s one of the first DOHC bikes by honda so it has some finicky gremlins associated with being new tech.
Good to know. I thought it was a derivative off the cb450 engine, with slightly larger displacement. He’s already down to 1200 on the phone, and I was thinking I could get him down 200 more based on the call.
Maybe ill just crack into the 450 and see how bad the jugs/head/seals look. Yay.
I also found a cb450 engine that looks to be in great shape, but the seller wants 500… ugh.
@GV1390. Yeah, so @focusinprogress sent me the trans about a month ago… I was busy… didn’t get to it. Just kept riding the bike milking 2nd gear. Last weekend, a buddy of mine out here that runs a shop called me to let me know he came across a complete, clean cb500t motor (one year newer than my frame, and the last year of the 70’s 450/500t.)
I swapped it last night and now just need to button up a few last things before firing it. Fingers crossed.
The real :snky: should be coming up Friday. I may have come across a haul.
Welp… bump… did the vintage bikes thread vanish or am I just having a case of the Mondays?
The 500t motor ran well for a while… but there were some issues that finally led me to rebuild the bottome end on the original 450 motor in the bike.
So here’s the old shift fork… probably wasn’t the best idea to ‘milk’ it for as long as I did. It does appear the centrifugal oil filter caught everything though… top end looks good. If anyone knows these old bikes, when I looked at the shift roller for the for drum, it was out of round badly… most likely leading to this shift fork damage over time. Eesh.
Back together and putting around some side streets locally. It’s 100% again (read: ZERO leaks, ZERO transmission issues.) My side streets aren’t too shabby, eh?
I also took the scrambler pipes and painted/heat* wrapped them. I’m satisfied with them for now.
Yes that was the one but when using the search engine lately, some don’t come up. Ie: Snowboard/Ski thread, MotoGP threads, Vintage Bike thread and even when searching for my own threads started, only the last one comes up now for some reason.
