Maxwell's '74 cb450 cafe build.

www.jetsrus.com should have what you need dudeguy

edit: http://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_carburetor_type/a_jet_kits_keihin_selection.htm

go down to “slow” jets and click each one until you find the one that looks/measures out to be what you have…

kewl.

Stock main jets are 150, so I went 2 up. Stock pilots are 38, so i’ll go 2 up on those too. With the bike breathing and farting better, this should get me dialed in.

I think you’re probably only going to need to go up one jet size if at all for the pilots. I went up one pilot for vstacks w/ no screens and open headers.

Sorry i misspoke, i’m buying both 1 and 2 sizes up just to be safe. I’ll definitely start 1 size up when i start tuning though.

A nice Sunday meant for a productive day.

Got my parts back from Craig at Southtowns Sandblasting Saturday morning. Prepped them for paint today, just a minor scuff with a scotch pad and I wiped down any extra sand and fingerprint grease. SS did a great job on this by the way.

Then I got sidetracked and fixed the lip on my car that I hammered a month ago on a piece of ice on i-90… nfg?

I had to wash the car too, long overdue, lol

Popped out the old bearings on the frame. A little heat got them all out. New tapered bearings on the left!

Set up a nice paint booth in a corner of the basement. The bike hung nicely on an old punching bag chain. I ended up wetting the floors and I had a space heater running nearby. I sprayed the bike with 2 light coats/ 1 medium coat of gloss black engine enamel which is fuel and chemical resistant. The frame took 2 cans.

Done for the day. I’ll give the frame a week to cure and slap the motor back in next weekend!

captions above the pictures!

lol, i fixed it for you.

Looks good dude!

now i can have many faps to that

I forgot about your PM. I think + one main and no pilot change will work for you

Oh keww, I forgot about that too. I’m thinking this will be my starting point and i’ll see how well it is dialed in once I get it back together!

This thing is gonna be sweet! I can’t wait to see the final outcome. Good luck!

Thanks dude! Loving that Nissan build of yours… keep that coming too!

looks nice, I’m glad to see it sandblasted and painted.

I took the frame upstairs to let it cure in a dryer environment, and I took off all the masking and plugs on lunch today. 1 noticeable run, and a few spots of orange peel. For the most part I am SUPER happy with it, and it will look really nice once the bikes back together.

Everything else came out great. I hit the engine mounts with gold engine enamel rated to 650deg. Tapered bearing cups are in the freezer ready to press on. This thing should go back together quick now!

The finish line feels in sight. Lot’s done yesterday and into today. I used new stainless hardware wherever I could, and red loctited everything.

bearing cups in.

tapered bearings packed and the triple tree went on easy.

progressive rear suspension and rear swingarm back on.

cb550 front forks on, chopped and painted front fender, lightweight headlight ears, clip-ons, stainless brake lines and new bolts/crush washers on, fork gators on, and all new hardware throughout. i dont mind some of the pitting on the forks, i plan to go to inverted forks in the near future. for now they will work just fine and have been rebuilt. oh yeah… the rearsets too.

this brake line was a little less flexed with clubmans, lol

original reservoir rebuilt

my mother gave me this years ago after a bad accident. i know its kinda cheesy, but i like it and put it on the fender

rear tire teaser

another just to see.

engines going in next, mounts ready to go.

this is about as clean as its going to get. i basically just degreased it.

I’ll probably toss the engine back in this week and start buttoning up the wiring. Getting close!

cant see any of the pics but looks like your making some solid progress homo.

It’s the work network here. I can’t see them either, but for others it should be just fine!

They make a banjo brake switch that would allow you to eliminate that BS stock fitting and multiple hoses. They’re pretty rad.
