I purchased the stainless lines over the summer just to refresh the front brakes and get the bike on the road. Now that i’ve gone through everything my plan for this summer is to go inverted front end and have a new resevior with the switch right on it. That would allow me to just run one line down to the caliper! For now, i’ll run it as is until I upgrade!
Dude, they are rad though, and cheap. Maybe i’ll get one on order…
Most of the modern levers don’t look all that great in my opinion. The round metal reservoir for the cb is great looking and doesn’t have any superfluous switches on it like the clutch side does. I’d keep the oem lever even with the new front end. They’re all the same piston size anyway from what I recall.
I really do like the old reservoirs look and feel. I guess once I find an inverted front end I can just use that with the banjo bolt switch. I’ve got some time before I get there though. For now, the front brakes will function just fine until I can upgrade.
So Newman, you got me thinking about my current front brake solution and I think I want to buy one of those bolts with the switch built in, as they’re only like $20. My only issue now is finding a male/male to connect my 2 lengths of stainless line. I don’t feel like paying 40+ for a new stainless line just to get down to the caliper. If anyone has a link to a small male/male adapter, let me know!
Male AN to AN. I just need to connect the short and long lines since I won’t have the OEM brake switch. It’ll clean things up a bit back there and for $20 plus a few bucks for the male/male it’ll be worth it.
These are my brake lines, i’ll order that part now from summit if it should work. Can you confirm? I don’t see anything specific regarding sizing on the summit site.
Yep, I just looked around a bit here at work. I’ll scoop one on lunch and place an order tonight for some new front brake pads, new handlebar grips and the front brake switch! Thanks dude.
Ugh, annoyed. I was busy at work so I just copy/pasted the info from the website I bought the lines from. Clearly mis-information. I stopped to Napa on lunch and got a 1/8 male/male npt and it’s clearly incorrect, 3/8 was clearly way to big, haha. This is why I hate shopping for fittings, i’m terrible, lol.
Here’s what I need a male/male for and the brass piece is the incorrect 1/8npt. Anyone?
After Newmans suggestion, I decided to get rid of the bulky oem front brake switch and pick up a banjo bolt with brake switch built in. Pretty nifty little unit! Also, as opposed to having to order a new length of stainless line which would have run me like $30-40, I picked up a -3an male/male for like $2. This will get me set up just fine for now. It actually works out well to because I can use a steel tie in the OEM bolt holts on the triple tree to hold down the line right on the male/male fitting without worrying about the steel tie rubbing right on the line itself. Nice!
There are so many parts to that brake line, just suck it up and buy one line that goes from the caliper to the lever. You can get the lines from summit pretty cheap and I even found cheaper places online.
Get rid of the steel lower section and the union. Use a p clamp to mount it.
I could get the longer piece and just go from the hard line to the resevoir, thus having it be only 2 pieces, but I want to keep the hard line for 2 reasons. One, if I were to go straight of the caliper, the angle of the caliper hole puts the line right on the tire. I’ve tried. 2, cost savings towards a new front end.
Good call on using a rubber coated p-clamp, i’ll scoop one up.
