motor cuts out under boost/high rpms

my ca is cutting out after 5k

installed a fmic, pulled the car back in the driveway and the cold pipe was off of the tb pretty much

also have a bov mounted coldside, vaccuum source is being taken from the wastegate (t-off)

aside from these two things and a catback, thats all ive installed since this started happening.

havent taken it out for a spin again now that the coldpipe is back on, (is was like half off half on, on an angle, definate leak)

cars not insured so driving it aruond is a risk

just wanted to see what everyone else said.

What do you mean by cuts out? Does it drop power? does it feel like iginition is being cut??

If its an ignition issue, try changing your plugs gap.

rest of the band up until 5k pulls very hard and smooth, 5k ish, power cuts off, felt like it was getting no air/fuel

with the leak, would it just cut at higher rpms. or shouldnt the whole thing have felt sluggish

also had to disconnect the catalyc o2 sensor

could this be causing it to break up?

breaks up in every gear around and past 5k

all you can hear is the exhaust note,m then when you hit 5 k, it soulnds like a tonne of air just released in the engine bay, alomst like a bov but not as sharp, nd this is while still on gas

perhaps im havng a problem with my bov? its mounted about a foot from the tb, maybe its faulty and releasing air early under load and the charged air is not even getting into the motor then?

ive read that the ca is at peak VE at 5k, so its taking in the most charged air

so peak pressure here, with a charge pipe leak, could this be my problem?

Its most likely not your BOV, theres no reason for it to just sudden open if its not seeing any vacuum.

If you have a leak then by all means that could be the issue. Start by fixing the leak and hooking up the O2 as they can cause weird problems like this. You cant diagnose a problem without having everything running right beforehand.

Your taking the vacume source for your bov from the wastgate?
take it from the throtle body teed from the fuel pressure reg then take the car for a rip and see

right now i got my bov teed to the nipple under the plenum

under the plenum is not suposed to be a good spot just so you know thats why off the fuel regulator.

Stock CA MAF is ass for flow.

We ran into this with Danner’s car (CA18DET S12). He was just maxing out the flow of the stock MAF with a slightly bigger turbo.

Not saying that’s what’s happening with you for sure, but that’s what was happening with us.

I have had a cheap blow off valve leak, but it wasn’t like hitting a wall. It would bleed a bunch of boost (from 17 psi to 7), but still pull.

Also check for leaks or tears in silicone couplers. Sometimes you can’t see the tear, but once you’re pushing enough air it will open up.

have you checked your spark plug gap? When I installed my EBC and could hold 16psi to redline I used to get a break up until I shrunk the spark gap.

upgrade maf… our ca ones are too weak, z32 is my next investment and nistune:) so i can finally drop in my new injectors. i have a very close setup to yours and have felt that same bunny hop at the top of the rpm.
