Motorcyclist Gets 30 Years In Death Of Trooper

A man convicted in the death of a Florida Highway trooper during a chase down Interstate 4 received a sentence of 30 years in prison Friday, according to Local 6 News.

Prosecutors said Donald Williams, 39 was racing a Porsche car down I-4 about a year ago when trooper Daryl Haywood noticed the cars speeding.

While Haywood was trying to stop Williams, he blew a tire, lost control of his cruiser and was killed in a crash.

During the trial this week, Williams said he never saw Haywood behind his motorcycle, so could not be held responsible for the crash.

Friday, Williams offered condolences to the Haywood family, but never acknowledged speeding his motorcycle down I-4, Local 6 reporter Mike DeForest said.

Just before the judge sentenced Williams, Haywood’s wife requested a severe punishment.

“You have left numerous victims in your wake,” Haywood’s wife Linda said. “You have taken away my life partner. The void that exists is an extremely painful one. Our hearts are broken and nothing will mend them.”

Williams said he hopes Haywood’s family will not be mad at him and can put the incident behind them.

WOW. I understand the guy was speeding and he should be punnished for that but should he be responsible for this guys death?? Pretty cruel sentence. Just imagine a cop is a good distance behind u (and we all know when a cop pulls u over they come up behind going really fast) and he wrecks and gets killed. You’re supp to be held responsible cause he was coming after you? :ugh:

wow

x2

I didn’t know freak accidents were punishable by law…oh wait, cause they aren’t! Man I feel bad for the troopers family but his wife is overreacting. The dude did nothing intentional to cause the crash. Thats a terrible terrible example of our court system. I would’ve appealed that all the way to the supreme court. Dudes lawyers must have been some weak ass da’s

u said it, DA’s prob. wanted to see the cop win, might have know the cop

I definitly feel bad for both dudes but I can’t justify sticking the one dude in the lockdown for 30 years because the other dude blew a tire.

There’s most likely more to the story than what is posted in that little blip. Something like the guy on the bike was doing 150 mph wheelies for three miles or something stupid like that while the police were in chase. Although florida and california tend to have some wackos wearing the robes and handing down decisions.

this blurb has a little more on the accident:

Definitely some suck ass defense attorney or at least someone really bad at picking a jury.

ya thats complete bs…there might be more to the story, but ive been pulled over on a bike before and unless tehy have the sirens going its hard to see a cop behind you cause your not constantly checking your side view mirrors, esp if your busy racing a porche. im sure he had his eye on the prize.

the lamestream media wouldn’t leave important details out of story. :dunno: he must deserve the death penalty if the judge says he’s guilty

What about the guy driving the porsche? isn’t he partially responsible then?

im sure he’ll appeal it and win

true.

sure the motorcyclist was speeding. but it wasn’t his fault that the tire blew out. The trooper must have been driving a crown vic with firestones:rolleyes:
If he wasn’t chasing this guy then what is his job then?
Accidents happen on the job everyday

Actually here was the problem

Haywood was killed last October when his police Camaro patrol car crashed into the woods on I-4 in Volusia County, Fla. Haywood was attempting to stop an alleged high-speed race between a motorcycle and Porche when he crashed.

The Camaro was no match for the bike or a Porsche

i dotn think he should get that at all

FHP… GAY!

Don’t expect this person to win… Jeb Bush is the Gov.

I don’t know how they could find that fair and reasonable punnishment. :dunno: I mean, if he’s going to jail for this, the dude in the porsche should be too dontcha think?

I just cannot justify this punnishment, especially if the tire blew. What about the speed rating on the tire? You think Fla spends the money for ZR rated tires (although 150 would be V) What about that? And how did the tire blow? Did the officer run over something that could have lead to the weakening of the tire? Is the construction truck driver that had a nail fly off the bed of his truck also partially responsible?

Complete BS!

appeal…that is bullshit. Maybe they never actually found the Porsche?

what if the porsche was w/ the F.H.P??
