My Build Thread LS1/FD Its Fast!

As Luke said we did 16hrs straight of work yesterday. I only have a few pics and will prob put them up in a bit. A lot of the closing stuff is labor intensive but not really pic worthy anyhow. Thanks again to Dan Lesser for letting me play with his TIG like 329478293847 times in the last few weeks.

Also Luke L is the man not only is this wiring fucking legit as hell what kind of a friend will work 16hrs straight…up till they have to leave for a flight!

Here are a few pics from yesterday although i didnt take too many of what Luke was doing. Maybe I will go get some later. He made it so that there are no fuse boxes and relays under the hood and they are all behind the drivers seat now. I will let him chime in but IIRC he dropped about 20lbs worth of wiring out of the chassis harness!!!

I started the day by installing the aerocatch hood latch system(love it and works great…buy them)

This is what Luke got that entire mess of wires down to. It is in the car now and looked great when he taped and wrapped it all but I didnt take any pics lol

Made this battery tie down, bought some threaded rod, grabbed this batter from FinalGTS’s garage(thanks Dan!) and installed it all behind the passenger seat.

Engine ground that is installed from block to frame rail under the car so you don’t see it

Finally the front end is coming together. It almost looks like a car again!

So it’s done now right?

I have access to some some heat resistant tubing I put over wires and such that come close to exhaust parts if you need anything. Even some diesel pieces I cut in half to be able to wrap things.

I have some but that stuff is expensive! So if you have a hook up there are deff a few more spots I would like to wrap.

yea pm me some details on what you wanna cover and I’ll see what I got on hand and/or can get that would work

Not trying to hump your leg, but this build is facking sex. I’ve been following this since I joined, and am really impressed with the quality of workmanship that’s gone into this thing. Awesome work. In for heaterzzzzz.

wash your car. lol

Siq thanks

My ego loves you right now. Thanks!

Pffffttttttt so I cleaned my garage today and was about to wash the car and my dad showed up and we went running. Maybe tomorrow. I could go wrench right now but im kinda burnt out from yesterday.

Why dont people just retain and use the stock hood latch mechanisms?

Weight would be my guess. Doing an all out build you might as well shave what you can… little things added up will help

Although weight is probably the main reason for many in my case I had to remove the factory hood latch assembly to mount my Rad and IC. Otherwise to go under it I would have had like no ground clearance at all. So in my case it was just a matter of necessity. A side bonus is my hood(aftermarket) fits so much better now because I was able to use the adjustable latches to mount the one side slightly lower which it needed. Siq

Word… that was my original guess (for your case), but sooo many people do latches while retaining the stock one as well… seemed like overkill.

Deff more work then I would want to do without a damn good reason haha especially hood pins. I dislike them personally which is why I went through the trouble to do the aerocatches.

nice job drew

They SUCK to install as nice as you did, but they’re GD pimp when you’re done.

Thanks man. Lets have some beers soon. Call me

I have about 4hrs into the install and that is no BS straight working fast. To get them to sit perfect and such was a tonnnn of work. Luckily I have air tools.

To give a quick rundown of how I wen about the hole I used a dremel to cut a small window into the hood just to get in there with my carbide(get these at a welding store) and that thing worked magic. Then the mess it made was hilarious!

those look cool, are they the kind you have to turn with the arm up to grab? I’m not sure on thous style, worked with them on some cars don’t know if there all like that but think I remembered a set like that?
you want to see a mess from carbide…

looking at the pics again thous blackoxide bolts are gona rust like that in a few months, unless you never let them get wet. Paint them, or keep them oiled if you dont want them to look shitty.

You push on the back and it pops the lever then you can take the hood right off. Post your carbide mess! I use mine a ton but

OK cool, ya I think I used some they were cheap or beat or something you had to push the level “around” to hook on latch… just not adjusted good. And theirs some push to lock, but self eject popup deals that suck. You push to un-pop one, but another sometimes latches after you have most un latched. You have some good stuff, there some junk ass ricer hood latch stuff out there, that I hated working on some POS with. I hate, hate stupid shit people do, that has l no practical function, and worse then the stock setup was anyway.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/Picture005-2.jpg no pic of a serious pile. this is while ago, wood is new and clean and not much on the bench. one sitting maybe after I built this setup? Under it really piles up, ha Use a dust pan like a shovel I should recycle it. A stock GTP intake manifold,Sc, and IC, came in the other day. Will use Bport to rough it but will be alum snowstorm off the grinder for sure
