My Build Thread LS1/FD Its Fast!

All day it took for someone to realize I sold my longblock haha. or to care I guess :frowning:

A certain member of this very forum will be doing heaters using my magical 10sec cam-only motor. But the certain fggt member is considering having me put the stock cam in. Ewwww

I am ordering a very BA LS2 based 390ci boost longblock. Should be a fun street car.

Makin’ MOVES.

Making moves.

Drew, you better put a 25.5 cage in that thing while you are getting it done. You will need it, Just sayin…

Shit ain’t gonna be that fast. Im not planning to run it all out either(low boost pump gas). I bet with a stick it goes high 9s in the 140s at best. I am going with a 10 point.

Now if it had an auto behind it haha well that would be another story.

PS I still didn;t buy a turbo yet. Almost went for a pt88 today but im thinking with the car being a stick I might be able to get it down the track much quicker if I sacrafice the dyno queen numbers I care non about and jam out one of these slick high hp 78-80mm setups available now a days. I am on the fence here.

I think I could get 750rwhp out of the gtm-t78 which is more then I will probably be able to get down the track anyhow. Might as well enjoy a quicker spooling turbo, less lag, and be able to keep the revs down.

Need to make some decisions here.

I’ll call tomorrow and help you make a decision. You could always just buy my turbo… it’s PROVEN lol.

You told me it was sold! What model is it? I think I am just going to go the route of the GTM-T78. People make over 800rwhp on it which I can’t see myself needing and it will then give me a more useable power band. I am worried if I go with something like the pt88 even on 390ci with a 6-sp im just not going to be able to keep it going between shifts.

People always b.s me… Its a Turbonetics T76 T-4 .96 housing. It may be a bit small for a 390, but seems to work great on my little 331.

-You need to take a while to figure out what you want, don’t just go run out and buy a turbo lol. But if you are gonna run out and buy, get mine haha.

Nice. That is a wee bit smaller then I think i should run. Jose from forcedinductions really knows his turbos and is very familiar with the ls community. I will probably go the route that he thinks I should. you know i have been planning this for a long time. Just decided to go with more cubes!

Do they make tires wide enough to put this power down in an fd? Def gonna be my new favorite car on this forum.

Obv as we all know compound of tire will play a big role in if it will hook up. I think my et drags will get the power down at the track pretty well. On the street i might need to upgrade somewhat. I run a nitto nt-01 road race tire as my street tire now in 275-35-18 and they do a good job but are near their limits at around 400wheel. i will be running way less gear next year so we will find out. I might need to go to a larger diameter and a little wider tire of a similar compound for the street.

x2 on Jose

Talked to him before I picked up my TC78 F1 for my 355

Paint looks sweet on the M, who did you go through?

After all is said and done, you may be reaching Newman land in project costs. lol

I am sure i will have about the same into as he does after this winter. However i am going to have a car that will make 800+wheel withe ease and be marketable for $30k+ easy lol. Stick around for a min im uploading a ton of pics right now. Im working fast. my winter build might be done before the snow comes haha(jk).

Paint on my M5 and FD were both from Choko although I am pretty sure he had Mike(they do work together) paint the M5. It honestly looks amazing better then it ever has before. Soooooo mint now.

Ok so I already got started on the winter build. Im not going to lie after all of the issues last year and working on it so much it is just getting so easy for me to work on this car. All of what you see here is about 7-8hrs MAX of work so far. Before you guys look at all of these pics I am interested in ideas of colors for the suspension and engine bay. I am going to have every suspension component and subframes professionally blasted and powdercoated. I am thinking the subframes one color, suspension stuff another and the engine bay a third color maybe black/gold flake engine bay. i am kinda leaning toward a black/gold/gunmetal theme for the car. Let me know guys! Ok pics now hehe

Dash out and getting started on teardown

These grounds were on a bolt to the head that was not tight at all.(picard myself) this certainly was not helping my electrical issues.

Oh haiii engine harness on my seat

Luke L is obv on top of the wiring situation and teaching me oh so much. I am getting pretty decent at this stuff. We made a full page of labels and an index for when we start remaking a new harness. It is all going to be in the pretty loom newman uses that I <3. I am stoked.

All starting to come out!

Engine/trans could come out right now it is just sitting in there right now. I had to take the mounts/subframe out to get the headers out. I am going to slap the subframe back in tomorrow though so that the car can be a roller and we can get started on building the turbo kit while I wait for my new motor.

Entire harness out!

Jus chillin in there

Enjoy

Fucking christ Drew…you gots this shit torn down real good:tup: Look forward to the continued progress!

I really have only put in maybe 8hrs max haha. Stop over for a beer and check it out again. I plan to paint/refinish the entire car and address any type of deficiency that I can find. I am stoked.

New motor was officially purchased this morning

418ci LS3 setup with dart 225 heads.

Man you don’t waste any time! What are the plans for the old mill?

I sold my old longblock to someone locally already. Deff not wasting time cause this build is going to be quite extensive this winter.
