Keep in mind customer service and service call fees/.
TW HD is garbage, and they have so few HD channels it’s a joke.
I have all of that plus road runner and cable in 2 rooms for $100. You should be able to swing that.
no it’s not… and they have all the major channels… I don’t really care about “MTV reality station 5” and all the others that fluff up the numbers for others
when choosing between dish and DTV the packages are comparable for the most part, basically just choose which programing package fits your needs best. Both dish and DTV’s HD does look better than TW. And the dish DVR is a bit better from what I hear than the DTV but hopefully that will change soon with the launch of our tivo units next month.
edit: I work for DTV so if anyone decides to go with them shoot me a PM and I will pull your appointment forward.
Their HD is more compressed, but you really only see that on certain fast scenes.
I didn’t realize 60 was “few”
Compared to 170 for the same price? DirecTV has better quality and more station for the same price.
Would it be the same price?
I prefer stations i actually watch, which isn’t 60 and isn’t near 170…
Also i don’t go for overall # or overall monthly rates… The big picture is service, quality and total cost yearly, which may include service calls. Also I like to speak to a person within the US and speaking to someone in cheektowaga is a huge bonus.
With Dish, you call Intertech which is in Lockport, so your point is what exactly???
And back before I worked for Dish, I had TW. I have never had so many problems with tv and internet especially. The US call centers would always blame it on a router I didn’t have. Then when they did send a tech, the guy replaced a splitter and left.
It took them two days to get a guy back out. The second guy actually fixed the problem and was there for more then 10 minutes. It was the POS modem TW gave me.
And one other thing, with Dish or DTV you get new receivers, not some used and reused modem or receiver that was just retrieved from someone’s house the day before. And yes this does happen. I work with many former Comtec and 5 West techs that say that its a everyday thing to reuse equipment.
It doesn’t get tested, if its dusty they wipe it off and give you a new remote. Thats some service right there!!!
Amen… and they do freaking shit install work.
I say Dish Network ftw mostly because I think there DVR hardware just owns… the VIP722K looks to just be more goodness http://www.dishuser.org/722k.php
that is not entirely accurate. DTV refurbishes some of their recievers. MOST of the equipment is new but some of it does go back to get bench tested in CA then shipped back to us to install. It doesn’t go straight from one house to another though like TW does.
Ok, and he has DTV, thats my point…
Contractors do get mainly used equipment to do installs. The equipment does get tested.
So TW sent a tech out twice for free and the problem was fixed. Doesn’t sound that bad to me.
Blah, just a cheaper version of the 722. It doesn’t come with an OTA tuner unless you order it seperate.
The receiver you should be looking forward to is the 922. Built in slingbox!!
I was just ogling the 2 ota tuners with the add on and being able to use all 4 at once. Honestly if DirectTV could fix that major pitfall of the hr22 with the am21 I would have probably went with DirectTV being there DVR software seems to have advanced although the DirectTivo HD coming out soon makes the game really interesting.
i hear this alot, how many times have you ever had to actually get someone to come out and look at something? we’ve never had someone out here other than the initial setup, ever. sounds like a marketing ploy really
Just looked up the VIP 922 and hot damn that looks sweet.
TW dose not test almost any of the equipment. The contractors very often take it out of one house and install it in the next without any testing at all. Just a new remote. I had friends that worked there and some co-workers that used to work there. They all say the same thing.
Exactly my point. New customers get old, recycled equipment. That isn’t right.
as a consumer I almost prefer used equipment… it’s been more tested than anything new out of a box.
Uhm no… Equipment removed from an account has to be inventoried before it can be put into a different account. That requires it to be scanned in at a computer.
There are ways around this, however it is not policy and if your “friends” were doing this they were part of the reason TW reissues used “bad” equipment.
Most HD stuff is new, a lot of the regular digital boxes are used, actually i have yet to see a new regular digital in a loooooong time.
When service calls are free, who cares if the box is used. One call should resolve any “bad” box, and hopefully the tech tags the bad box so it is properly handled and not put back into the field.
