my cable vs. dish/direct/etc thread.

thankyou

BUMP im in the process of figuring out what to do for the house… i dont want a 120 bill again…

we have comcast, dish, direct tv, att, and maybe a couple others…

Any known deals? etc etc…

Im going to need highspeed internet and maybe a land line too.

I just switched to DirecTV a few weeks ago.
Got $21 off a month for a year for the 2009 pricing promotion
Got $5 off a month for a year by signing up for emails
Got $10 off a month for two years by using the AAA discount 800#
Got $35 off a month by combining with my Verizon account.
Got a free HD DVR and up to 4 free standard boxes (I only took one)
Got free installation within a week.

I cannot believe how happy I am with DTV. Not only is it way way way cheaper than TWC, the picture quality appears better, the DVR is 100x better, and I’ve had no issues. I can even schedule recordings from my cell phone if I forgot to schedule something.
Plus if I refer someone, we each get $100. What did TWC do for me? nothing. When I went to return the box, they didn’t even ask why or offer a $5 discount to keep me. They’re losing a $160 a month customer and they don’t care.

am i missing what your total monthly bill is? lol

From the other thread

"i just signed up for directv, free hd dvr box, and after the AAA discount, its running me about $40 a month for a year
i combined with verizon dsl and home phone, so the verizon triple freedom is saving me an additional $35 a month.
much better than the $200 a month I was paying before with TWC + Verizon home phone. "

So your comparing DSL speeds to cable modem speeds?

The TW phone/internet/cable package is close to $100

maybe for the first 6 or 12 months

???

fine print?

Participation in the program involves a contractual commitment, so if you cancel or downgrade package services you will be subject to an early termination fee of up to $150.

contract = no thanks

FiOS is the same way.

Anyways you will probably save money getting a package deal.

However you could get TV + Internet and get Vonage or someother VoIP system.

Comparing DSL speed to cable modem speed is the same as comparing shitty time warner TV to satellite TV

exactly!

I don’t care what he goes with I would just weigh all the options if you need high speed internet faster then DSL you might end up saving money with a package from verizon/cable provider.

I really can’t quote you prices for the area you live in. I can get you a number to call though.

Let me know.

The DTV hd dvr is no joke anymore. It was a POS when it came out but it seems like every other month they add a new feature. They just added multi room playback for all HD boxes that are networked(in beta testing). I just set up both my hddvr’s and it works great. Lets you record two live shows, and watch two previously recorded shows on either tv, in HD of course. Dual buffer for both tuners now. DVR scheduler. Lots of on demand stuff. Can use an external HD, (for free). They have making great strides with it!

who do you work for? what do you do… thanks…

I work for Intertech Digital which is the service provider for Dish Network from Rochester to the PA/Ohio border. I am a tech, and really only know pricing for this area. One of our salesmen in our marketing dept (Altitude Marketing) would be the best person to talk to regarding Dish service and bundling in your area.

Obviously it wouldn’t be my company doing the install, but either another RSP (regional service provider) or Dish Network themselves, depending who covers your area.

Actually come to think of it, 9ONA3OOZX on here works for Altitude I think. Maybe try PMing him. I don’t know how much he is on here or if he still works back there, but he might be able to help. If not, let me know and I will get you a contact.

thanks for the help… ill pm andy.
