My new E23 1984 BMW 733i

Update: New rotors and pads for the fronts are here, next thing to do is pull the rears and see how they are. Front rotors were below spec, and could not be cut. I think there are only a few things left to do in order to have the car pass inspection:

  1. Install new brake rotors (Pads too, more than likely)
  2. New passenger side turn signal bulb (one filament has power and comes on with the parking lights, but does not flash with the hazards or turn signal)
  3. Pull speedometer and see what’s up with it. I hear it’s common on these cars to have a stripped speedo gear, and I’m hoping that is all it is.

If I can get it inspected with those things, I’ll worry about whats wrong with the blower motor later. Does anyone know if the power windows have to work to pass inspection? The driver’s side (front and rear) power windows work flawlessly, the fron passenger side one I got to move down and up about 2 inches on it’s own, and the rear passenger one doesn’t work at all.

Update:

Found out yesterday when I pulled the rear wheels that the coilovers on the back… well, the springs are broke. On the driver side, the spring is cracked near the bottom and still in place, and on the passenger side, the spring is broke at the bottom, and slid off the seat and is rubbing against the shock.

H&R springs in the future. If I don’t sell it, i’m losing motivation to work on this piece.

Cleaned the ICV yesterday, car now starts up and idles on its own. No more bogging down and having to gas it to keep it alive. That’s nice.

I hear you on working on old heaps. My car was poorly maintained too, but I have to say when you do make some headway it’s worth the pain in the ass.

Well, the headway was made. A guy in Atlanta is going to send me his stock springs from his '85 745i, and all it’s going to cost me is the shipping.

So the official to do list in order to get inspected:

  1. Fix Speedometer
  2. Replace rear springs
  3. Finish brakes (Sucked air like an idiot last time bleeding the fronts), needs rotors and pads on the back.

Then it should be ready. I hope.

Hopefully everything works out for ya. I’ve seen a couple older bmw’s such as yours which were pretty nice.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few, too. I’d like to have the money to get it back into good shape cosmetically, but that’s second priority.

I just want to get inspected and see how long it can go until it dies. Including macking trashcans. (j/k.)

I’ve decided that once the car is inspected, expect more and more Eurotrash mods. Bike roof rack, lowered, something done to the hood or roof (rusty hood, checkerboard roof? Who knows.)

This is my inspiration. It’s an E28 5-series, but this is the look I will eventually be seeking, other than BBS/old HRE wheels, because the prices on them are ridiculous:

I’m digging the wheels on that black one, but the rusted hood just doesn’t do anything for me.

I’d say even to find like an older deep dish alloy wheel would look good on it, like 80’s Benz’s and shit… I’ll see if I can find a pic of what I’m talking about.

Similar style, just maybe not the same spoke pattern.

so exactly like your pic, only completely different.

When people put newer OEM rims on older makes of the same kind, that looks good IMHO…any newer OEM BMW rim will look good as long as they fit…oh and I didn’t read this but is this the 3.5L turbo motor in it?

Unless you like the messhies:

Oh, and here are the ones above, those Borbet’s use to be baller back in the day:

Right…

The last pic though shows them looking pretty good.

kilmer - It’s the N/A 3.2L, unfortunately.

i keep seeing this cadillac in robinson that has a completely rusted hood… some old guy drives it

WIN.

or not

In case you haven’t noticed, this car is a joke.

So who wants to buy this thing. I don’t have time for it anymore.

I like the demo derby idea in the classified thread.

Hell yeah, whoever buys it can do whatever they want with it. It does deserve better, but I’m ready to move on to the next project… if I can find the time. Or fix the Audi. This situation is ass when it comes down to it. The 25 year old BMW runs better than the 11 year old Audi.
