My sponsored 78 shovelhead build thread

WWWJ again cut some blanks for me to mount my fuel pump and regulator and filter. Sincere tank is rubber mounted it seemed like a great place for these items. Regulator mounts via the return fitting. It’ll all plumb very cleanly.

Here are some pics:

Looks good. Sorry for delaying you guys yesterday, I don’t normally have customers help move other customers stuff. :frowning:

So I sort of jumped the gun and started welding on some oil line fittings before I had the hose ends and wound up making more work for myself.

Here is what I did initially:

But when I put the hose ends on it looked totally fucked (not pictured) So I had to cut the upper one off and weld the hole closed:

Then since I had the fittings I could align them properly. Also to note: since I wanted the fittings on the bottom of the tank, I needed the return and vent line to be at the top of the tank I needed to pipe them up there inside:

Since I had them wedged into corners of the tank I drilled some cross holes to keep the flow unrestricted.

Here’s a crappy shot through the oil fill hole:

And then here’s a few shots of the fittings and their respective hose ends all mounted.

I also welded in an oil fill bung and plug:

Lookin good. Def looks like a challenge to plumb AN lines in such a compact area.

Thanks.

I may make some SS hard lines (especially for the fuel feed) at some point but this will do for now.

Ok, ya. Thatll be “fun”. But it will def look awesome.

Any more thoughts on finishes yet?

Dan

This work is a lot more tedious that a single post can express

Yes.

Forks and the spots in the caliper are going to be same brown as the hubs.

Tank sides are going to be striped with 3" wide alternating stripes at the same angle as the cut for the oil tank. They will be alternating PEARL WHITE and RESCUE GREEN with a 1/4" BLACK stripe in between.

This is rescue green. It’s a jeep color.

I love reading the updates here. As always, great job dude. That pump and regulator look like they belong there.

Nice color choice, as well as all the other progress on this bike. Fun fact: the designer of the Jeep Rescue lives here in Buffalo now.

Is there a deadline for the competition?

Sounds good. And itll match your pants.

I still think the fenders would look awesome (wrapped) in kevlar and just cleared.

Dan

They said JUNE. IDK if that means june 1st or not, but several people aren’t done, plus I don’t REALLY care.

I am going to make a second fender so maybe I’ll try wrap that one…

Overall I love the bike, your own personal twist on everything.

Nothing personal, but those AN fittings, pump, and regular just don’t “look” right; they don’t seem to match your/the bike’s style. They seem out of place in regards to the rest of the bike. This is my opinion, take it for what it’s worth.

That green is you.

Is there a cover for the belt, I’m assuming what would be the “timing belt”?

Beck, i assume you’re talking about the belt that connects the engine to the trans

yeah there is a cover but i doubt CTN will be running one…

Yeah, heh. Thanks. I know literally nothing about bikes or their set ups.

Is that going to cause issues with debris? What if a fairly large rock found itself in there? What about a pant’s leg?

I thought about putting the pump somewhere else but there really is no other good place for it. The ONLY other place it would MAYBE fit is under the transmission, but then it becomes a plumbing nightmare. I plan on painting the pump and brackets black. The regulator is nearly unnoticeable because it’s black. I don’t expect it to really “stick out” much once it’s all buttoned up. Also, the hose I am using isn’t stainless braid it’s black nylon braid. Making hardlines for the fuel lines is a distinct possibility as well. One last thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the pictures are take from an angle that the bike typically won’t be viewed at.

Tons of people run open primaries. If debris gets in there the worst it’d do is break or jump the belt. I can deal with that. As for a pant leg? Skinny jeans or tucked into boots. It’s not the safest, but neither is half the shit I do.

Understood, maybe that’ll make it blend in and be more fitting.

Otherwise, keep up the progress! I wish I had the tools/time to do builds like this.
