Frame stripped down and ready for blast/powdercoat. All the ugly harley welds were ground smooth, holes filled, unneeded brackets removed, etc.

Damn dude.
You really have some serious time invested in this.
About 500 hours give or take.
HOLY SHIT! 500 hours x $95 an hour shop rate=$47,500+parts cost= over $55k
i can assure you there is more than $7500 in parts
Ha last I knew was over $20k a while back lol.
Builds like this are a labor of love though. I’m sure when it’s done it will be “priceless” to him.
There is about 11,000 in the motor alone.
Got another set of rockerboxes to split. Usually when people split the rockers they run all sorts of crazy oil lines all over the place, but I’m not really a fan of that look:
So I wanted to minimize the obtrusiveness of the oil lines.
Started by cutting them in half:
Then I rounded them a bit on a belt sander and welded closed the original oil passages, which are drilled on an angle.
Ground the (crappy) welds down:
Then I went about making some oil tubes. I put one oring groove on the tube, then used another on the face of the tube so when the rocker boxes are reinstalled they will squeeze the tube.
Since I didn’t have any lathe access I had to make do with the bridgeport.
Here are the completed tubes.
Then I made a fixture to hold the two roxerboxes merfectly parallel to one another, which allowed me to ensure the tube hole would be straight across from one another. I made one drill hole to connect to the oil galley, and then a pocket to accept the oring and tube. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of this. What I do have a picture of is a totally ghetto maneuver that I had to pull because I needed long bolts at 11pm…
And then the (semi) complete rocker boxes. I still need to finish and smooth the metal. Going for a brushed look. Polished can go get fucked.
OH YEAH… Also, I had to buy some bolts for my oil pump. 1/4-24… not UNC, not UNF. Had to get them from Gardener-Wescott. I think it was something like 70 bucks for the handful of bolts I needed!
Also decided to replace my OEM rockers with Jim’s roller rockers, those should be here early next week.
“polished can go get fucked” LOL
siq shit man.
such AN good look
…
cue up the slow clap .gif, that looks fantastic.
Do you have an o-ring/seal sourced for that transfer tube or do you plan to weld it together? That looks like a really deep seal groove but it may be just the perspective if the part is actually really small.
I like this approach a lot. The lines in the first pic you posted look wacky as fuck.
Yeah. The tube OD is only .34. the groove dimensions are set up for 19% squish which is actually a little on the tight side for a viton oring.
Looks way better than that other shit
Looks WAYYYY better.
Stopped by today for a bit and pictures really don’t do this thing justice. Great work
Put in another 14 hour day. prepped the tank for paint, which was a huge pain, then welded and drilled/tapped a new set of oil passages in the rocker boxes to join the heads together. Then, since the rocker boxes were all ready to go, I started to work on the finish. Here’s a pic:
Also got the frame all spiffed up…
