So my 2000 2.5 RS with NO RUST got rear ended by some idiot in a saturn.
Basically I was out playing around in the snow and decided to stop in the mall. Stopped at a 4 way stop sign, waited for one car to go, then the next car, and right before I hit the gas, wham, nailed.
It doesn’t look like much, I think It just cracked the bumper and chipped the paint where its attached at either end.
How does this work with insurance though? I have a stupid high deductible for collision because I really didn’t plan on hitting anyone. Do I file a claim with my insurance? Or do I call his? Will his pay for it? or will they say due to the weather it “wasn’t his fault”?
Normally i wouldnt take Travis’ advice on anything let alone vehicle insurance but since he hit you his insurance should cover it and its his fault for not being prepared to stop since any driver would know that its a lot slippery out right now.
Sounds good, So I talked to my insurance company and gave them all the info… they call back and say the guy’s insurance ID came up not on file with his company.
I am hoping I just wrote/read it wrong. I’m gonna call the guy’s agent tomorrow if he’s open and see whats up.
Did not call the cops, might bite me in the ass I am aware. Right now I’m just waiting for the guys state farm agent to get back to me so I can ID the guy through them.
I know hes local, make/model, his agent, and he has all my info. Hopefilly I can work with that.
Lesson learned. Its the first time i’ve been hit and had to exchange information hopefully someone else on this site that gets hit will remember to get license plate #s and license ID
the best thing to do now, is to go to the local pd station (of the accident location) and fill out a civilian accident report. they will look up both plate numbers (which im assuming you have his correct one). and put it on the report with what you say happened.
did he not want to get the police involved? was this even brought up? because him not being found on an insurance policy = sux0r…
really the only damage was a crack in my bumper and chip in the paint. Makes it seem like sitting there wasting my day waiting for the PO to show up was not worth my time. Neither of us mentioned filing a report.
You always file a report to cover your ass. He could go break his arm and say you backed into him and drove away and you be at fault on his lie simply on the basis the police were not called to file and incident report. Taxes are paid to pay the police to do shit like this.
