My very soon to be daily driven track toy!! Woot.

I’ll have some better pics and video shortly.

Short clip…sounds like ass from my BB.

86 RX-7 GX Model
Built 302
12.50’s all motor
11.30’s turbo

Can’t wait to throw some suspension on it and get some new pipes. Gonna be fun as hell.

hmm. i didn’t know they made 5l rotaries.

hmm i didn`t know ford made rotories lol

lol good stuff man.

nice car man, keep us updated

sigh as an FB owner this makes me sad, and dissapointed. just… no, no rotors, not impressed.

+1 for being different.

+1 for getting rid of the rotory. low end torque FTMFW.

peace

I’ve had a couple of TII’s with a rotary and popped three motors. I don’t hate the wankel, I’m just sick of replacing motors.

I like em when they work. No torque but fun on the track when you can let em rip.

This is my second FC with a 302 and they’re fun as hell. I’m looking to actually throw some money at this one though. Chassis in pretty good shape and motorset is all there ready to rock.

No difference between throwing a 2JZ in a S chassis. Motor is a motor is a motor is a motor. Go with one that gives you the most grin factor for the buck.

nice car, should rip it good on a straight, but i still think a well maintained rotary would have been better in a car like that haha kinda ruins the purity of the car and makes it a half-breed, the only good rotary is a 13B-REW anyway in my opinion lols I hated the Renesis in the RX-8 i had, i was at my dealership way more often than i would have liked

nice car nonetheless

Retains 50/50 weight distro. Whatcha think about that?

Why only in a straight? It can’r corner all of a sudden because it’s a ford powerplant? hahahha.

You can get low end torque out of a rotary, not as much granted. But My little 12A has 2.5 inch twin pipes with a racing beat header that collect just in front of the rear axle, never had a torque issue, as well it’s street ported with a 465CFM 4 barel Holley on a racing beat intake, and running a crane cams hi6 on my primaries. So it can rev quite a bit past red line, I had it past 8000 with no issues, don’t know how high it went as there’s no more guage left. I know how NA rotary is done… too bad I can’t tune a carb to save my life LOL

That thing sounds like fun! Don’t get me wrong, I have no problems with the rotary. The sound of race tuned bridge or periphal port on those things send shivers down my spine.

The debate of rotary vs the polar opposite v8 or jap vs muscle could go on forever. All of them have pros and cons. I love my sr’ed s14 and I love v8’s. There’s more than enough room to enjoy all kinds of motors. Just like all kinds of women.

End of the day, I’ve got a hard on for cheap tire shredding motors. I love the sound of a ford v8, especially the 302. I much prefer it to the gm sound. I’ve built a few mustangs and have always enjoyed the motor, just hated the chassis. I’ve likened it to a shoebox with a monster motor.

Best of both world here. Added on a couple of hundred pounds to the FC, but actually retained or improved weight distro. Its pretty well known that’s its all about where the weight is as opposed to what the weight is.

Is the 5.0 iron? I understand the LS1 not changing weight ditribution because it’s aluminum…but an iron block V8?? It’s gotta fuck something up in the feel

you all acting like that swap is brand new to mazda’s!! keep up the good work and keep us updated

#1000

+1

this engine will make the car nose heavy.

oh boo hoo. It will make the car nose heavy waaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Always negativity. It will make the car easier to drift!! Or whatever. Buy coil overs. Level her out. Throw some weights in the back.

Jesus christ why does everyone bitch about the most stupid things.

I like the idea of the swap. Looks real clean.

Again

+1 for a GOOD swap. I have no complaints other than it being a SBF :stuck_out_tongue:

i dont think that mazda could make the colors of this car any worse, interior and exterior

Like someone else said already, the swap has been done many times.

The motor is pushed back considerably further back than the original rotary. Relocated battery to trunk, removed any uneccessary weight, ie, ac, emmisions, etc…

It also sits a little lower. Its gonna be even lighter once the aluminum heads go on. Might have to do some more weight distro one the turbo kit goes back on but right now it sits at 51-49.

Its all about the balance of the weight.

This will be my second swapped FC. First one wasn’t nearly as clean but the car still outhandled my S13 at the time. Stock for stock. I know its hard to believe. There’s a certain stigma about domestic motors. (Understandably) but really, the nose heavy issue has been sorted. Even pushing the motor back an inch makes a significant difference

Yeah seriously. Puke burgundy. Terrible. shudder first thing to go. 2+2 interior going in.
