Nasty Insurance Surpise!....Cars 1993 and older

Hey,

Just wanted to share my experience with the insurance company to educate others on what is going to happen to them with a 20 + year old 240 (1993 or older).

As some of you may remember, last november, a silly f*cker left turned in front of me at an intersection, which wrote off my car. Been negotiating with them ever since, on the $$$. Just settled a couple of weeks ago, and went out to replace my 93, with exactly the same car. Called Belair Direct yesterday, who i had my insurance, and accident claim with (fuckers), to re-start my policy which i had cancelled since there was no car to insure. They told me, which was a shock to me, that they do not insure cars 20 years and older. If you are already with them, they let it slide, but if you are starting a new policy, they won’t insure you. FUUUUUUUUUU!!! I’m sure that the younger drivers all know that belair gives the best rates, and everywhere is more expensive (paid 3600/yr). Ok, so I go out to get new quotes, and they even referred me to a broker…broker, you think good rates right? WRONG!!!

That fuck quoted me 5800 for basic insurance 6500 with full coverage…HOLY FUUUUU! thats not gonna happen
Second, I call Desjardins insurance…5200 basic insurance…HOLY Fuuuuuu, thats not gonna happen, thinking of selling the 240 now…
Third, spoke to my dad, and he got a quote from his insurance which has has been with for a long time. 4050 for the year…DEAL!!! (ps- that was co-operators ins)

Ya, its more expensive, but compared to the others, a great deal.

Don’t even get me started with the APPRAISAL that the gov wants for 20 + year old cars. doing that now…FUUUUUUU!!!

Just warning ppl what they are in for with a 1993 or older car…

This is all old news my friend!

I did a search, and didn’t really find anything that matched.

State farm quoted me 3800 a year with full coverage O.o clean record

lol this is all normal process…

I pay $2200/year for my s13 with co operators. That’s with a home insurance discount, but my rates have never been higher than $3600/yr even when I was 17

I pay 2,640 a year with some tickets under my belt… statefarm broooooo dont quote online with statefarm, just call a bunch of brokers…

I know I know, state farms truly garbage to deal with, and really difficult. Bro, who you with to be paying less then 3 grand a year WITH tickets?

lol statefarm!! they have reasonable rates!

Their rates aren’t bad, they’re just really childish and difficult to get crap done with. Totaled my civic two months ago, 2 days before totaling it got in a fender bender with a pickup bed. Dood had the body shop rip off the ENTIRE bed, sand it down, fix the tiny ass scratches my little 200 lb car made on this stupid truck, then repaint everything, 4250 worth of work done. State Farm says they’ll cover it. Two months later, I get a letter from AllState saying that I did not have insurance at the time (which I did) and that I owed them 4250 for covering his repairs. I was like, haaaa no. So I called state farm, told them what happened. They told me I HAD to come in. So I did, talked for half an hour about nothing really ‘cause the girl there was a ditz, finally got on the freakin’ subject of the claim, turns out the 1995 Civic Si I had was not insured but a 2004 Civic Si was. Agent error, they said that’s their fault. So, then they call claims, and ask if it’s closed, it wasn’t. Even though they said they’d cover the damages and close it. So they finally get crap sorted out (so I’m told). Next week, Another letter from AllState stating tht the law will get involved if I do not pay. Called State Farm again, irate as hell. Called claims for me, whoops, “our bad”. This time I had a fax sent to me saying that it was officially closed and dealt with. No letter from AllState since. (sorry for the book)

what about just getting sliver wheel? and whhat’s this guv appraisal all about now?

yeah im with sate farm was good for clams and good for price. pay about 900 yer.

HOW THE FUCK?

Same boat. I’m with State farm and pay $900 / year.

This is Riddle_Rob… lol

How did you guys manage that?

they’re probably older than you, maybe a house to insure and do a bundle deal with another car? have more driving experience? Married?

Lots of factors.

I’m so glad i’m not 18 anymore.

LOOOL

My g2 expired and i got it again a year back, i have 2 shitty tickets 24 and in peel region combined insurance on my apt is $480 a month on my AE86 , they said they dont cover damage at all only Liability and $1,000,000 damage to others and health benefits.

you can get old cars insured but they arent covered at all. this quote was through TD

lady tells me Hondas are more expensive because there are more of them on the road which means the precentage of thefts /accidents and claims is higher for that brand… technically the more of a rare oldball car you have , the better your rate… for instance …first gen ford fiesta…havent seen those in years
mk1 /mk2 vw’s , my old mk3 was cheap for some reason.

I had a similar level of fun getting insurance for my fleet after I sold my house, and had to assume 2 cars not previously mine (although listed as driver on mom’s policy) after she passed…

I had to find a company that would insure my 25yr-old car, a 15yr-old and a 5yr-old, with 3 tickets, no claims, only 1 driver across all vehicles… so I heard every excuse they can throw at you, from max 2 cars, max 2 tickets, max 20yrs old etc etc, it was a brutal list, many companies won’t even tell you the conditions until AFTER you apply – I recommend getting a supervisor to give you a rundown of their refusal conditions list

I went through cornerstone brokers and they managed to sell aviva on giving me a policy, we listed all vehicles as 5k km recreational, no commuting, and included my renters insurance ($27 cost, total policy 12% discount)

The scary part is the 2007 caravan costs almost what my other two cost combined, even though all cars only have liability coverage (nissan $140/mo vs caravan $268/mo)
