long story short, the guy who i was going to have tig my cage is jam packed with his own builds, and i have a short window of time to get this thing done. i would TIG it myself, but i would like to hone my TIG skills before i approached this, and i really don’t have the time right now to do that…
welder must be GOOD. not some bonehead who wants to practice on my shit. otherwise it would already be done. if someone comes and wastes my time and shits on my cage i will be pissed.
the job:
-only 6 ends. (everything on the floor will be mig’d)
-mild steel (clean)
-as of right now, the cage is standing as a 4 point ready to go. the cage needs (should) to be rolled slightly to reach spots before the side bars are added. all the welder is responsible for is tig’n the 6 ends. (not floor points)
-everything is (will be) here set up ready to go
-a friend’s machine is here. it’s a newer miller (like new condish) that is very nice… i’m in my office now, i’ll run back to get the model number if that helps.
i’d have to see. last time i talked to mike about TIGing he said he hasn’t done it in years.
mike is a very good MIG welder, but beyond him, i’d say i’m probably as good if not better a MIG welder than the rest of them here… that usually reflects their TIG ability, and i doubt any of them do much if any TIGing
If you don’t find anyone local or want to pay a little more for his travel time, for some Great work. Your rollbar is no big deal, for him, tomarrow I’ll ask nick that used to work at Procar. Thats been working at new era sense spring about it. I know he still travles on the weekends working on some customers outlaw cars in CT, and the east coast that have him do all there work. He’s doing the chromoly work on my car in 2 weeks :eekdance:
He know the Wolfe stuff done a few lately and familiar with them, in fact New Era should be getting the paper work to be a distributor for them with a order I made fri…
edit, “welders” working at a bench/booth is way different then chassis work. I see him on a back, under the hatch with you legs up in the air. And using mirrors and shit, backhand, lefthand. Its not thew same.
those are pretty decent… i dont know how much i’m willing to pay to have someone travel necessarily…
don’t get me wrong i wasn’t expecting to get this for nothing, but im not going to pay out the ass to have someone travel here (obv hes got to make some money to do so) for something i can very well do myself…
ya, I see some other guys bring up normal welders and just wanted to post that difference. Out of HS I worked at a machine building shop as machinist mostly, small shop like 5-6 guys on the floor. And learned to weld good in a nice booth, with a welding table. TIG only on fixtures, brackets, and stuff. But its not even comparable to on car auto stuff.
i had victor puglia jr come over to TIG my cage last night… i HIGHLY recommend him for this type of work. very knowledgeable in terms of metals, fabrication, and drag cars in general. does very good work
matt did all of my intercooler piping and made me a manifold/downpipe…everything was does very well…
i think turbocivs’s mani was miged if im not mistaked??
