Hey everyone. I have just recently boosted my KA. Everything works great but when I’m drifting on the track after a few minutes the heat climbs to 3 quarters and if I don’t pull off it will just keep climbing. So I put spacers in the hood to allow heat flow through the engine bay better and I got a griffin aluminum rad that I took off a v8 drag car. It’s about twice as thick as a stock rad, maybe even more but it still climbs. I’m also running dual electric fans on the front and they are spinning the correct way. So my thought is could it be timing? What should the timing be on a KA-T? I do have a timing light so adjusting it is no problem but I’m not sure what a turbo KA should be at, I’m running 5psi on a .68 ar turbo. Now to my wastegate, I hooked it up and took it out and it opens at 5psi so it must have a set 5psi spring right? So if I want to run 10psi I’d have to put in a different spring? If I hooked up a boost controller would that do anything because it has a 5psi spring? Any input on these 2 issues would be greatly appreciated.
do you have a front mount intercooler thats enormous? no ducting? no undertray?
It is a front mount but no its pretty small
I have a great condition 10 PSI waste gate for a T28 If your ever in the market. has an adjustable preload screw too.
i dont know about timing but i have ka-t drifting for 3years and no overheating problems ever. stock clutch shroud fan on stock ka rad with ac condensor and fmic . dont know how to help you . try asking on ka-t.org especially if your talking about timing check on there… how is your car tuned? ka-t is safe to drift but reliable tune is most important.
bleed the coolant system
my guess would be a thermostat that’s failing on you, or an improperly bleed coolant sytem
i would recommend getting a nismo or equivalent thermostat that opens at 62 deg. the stock is 76 deg. i had one in my car and never had any problems
