sounds like the t-belt …get ready as those are bender motors
Bender motor?
And I already asked Wayne…but I’m hoping this didn’t bend any valves…
Interference motor, pistons will smash the valves that are open.
bender= interferance
interferance= bent valves
exactly. it might be junkyard hunting time!
Edit: I advised to get the belt back on it (if it’s in fact snapped) and yank plugs and compression test.
Will do.
This is starting to sound like it’s going to be a headache. Good thing my mom just went on disability for a little while (she just spent a month in the hospital due to heart problems). At least we’re not rushed.
not sure i 100% agree with the above statement. lol i’d rather be rushed anyday!
Why’s that? lol. She’s fine, just needs some time to recover from the defibrillator install, etc.
at least she’s alright man! i was just sayin i don’t ever think its a good thing when someone goes on disability! lol.
Yeah. We’re telling her to retire but my dads Brick Layer #2 insurance plan SUCKS BIG CHUCKS so she can’t since hers is way better.
ugh ins will get you every time!
you can take this with a grain of salt but comming from someone whos GRENADED a subaru motor (more than once) you’re going to need a new one most likely… im assuming the sound you are hearing almost sounds like dirt or grit in a roller bearing… scraping chunking sound… in which case its rebuild or new motor time. talk to fred at capitaland subaru in parts and he can point you in the right direction for a motor for that thing. good luck.
DO NOT listen to a fucking word this kid says. There is a reason he went through so many motors etc. UGH.
First things first, lets find out what’s wrong with this one.
ya may be lucky ,the noise your prolly hearin is the motor tryin to pull in and evacuate air with nowhere to go or get any .ya need to pull t-cover and see what happened make sure all pulleys move and are not siezed or loose ,if all good retime motor and install new belt and do a comp test to make sure valvtrain is still intact if all good run it if its low junk it
thank you.
De sounds like a blown t-belt.
'02 legacy L was 2.5L SOHC motor. There’s a c-hair chance you might get away with retiming with a new belt, but when they pop or slip at any speed they typically eat the valves with a vengence. Be prepared to buy a replacement motor or have that one rebuilt.
whatever you do DO NOT continue to crank that motor without checking the belt. you may be lucky now but could inadvertently cause a cam to slip and do damage that may not have occured yet.
EG33 is the only suby motor that’s non interference. all others are valve eaters.
So here’s what we found.
The belt tensioner was LOOSE and that’s what was causing the rattling/metal sound. The belt itself is intact (will be changed out anyway). I’m talking so loose that you can move it up and down with your finger. What the hell happened?
How likely do you guys think this caused any internal damage?
Subaru’s suck. I don’t like these cars, even before this happened.
oh and do tell what that reason is?
My car was tuned by the same guy justin mcgraths car was the 1st time, tuned by byrons tuner the 2nd time and tuned by seth at moon performance the 3rd time (with adjustments to make it safer by jason margison) (jays05)… it blew up on byrons tuners tune. and was found by seth at moon that it was a HORRIFFIC tune by getadomtune.com (byrons tuner) that most likely caused the blown motor. the car catching fire was far from anyones fault. it was a shitty occurrance and you are just spouting shit because you’re playing the “rag on travis” card. fuck off, you dont know what you’re talking about when it comes to why shit happened with my car. :retardclap
to the OP… i hope the motor is ok but from the sounds of it with the belt tensioner that loose it may or may not have chewed some valves. i wish you all the luck with it being a cheap fix though.
Okay lets not make this a Travis thread shall we?
I’m hoping nothing broke inside either. Neither me nor my dead has ever taken a motor out of a car. I wouldn’t even know where to start.
ok man here’s what you gotta do… since the car shut off, i’m willing to bet that the belt DID skip time… Get out your book, and with the cover off, check to make sure ALL the timing marks line up where they should. (you may have to spin the engine a few times bro, the cams don’t spin 1 to 1 with the crank!) If they don’t then when you crank it do hear any metal to metal banging or tapping when you crank it? if NOT, then I would get a new tensioner, belt, etc. and grab your book, get as many of the marks lined up as you can, and then remove belt. line up whichever one is off, and install new belt and tensioner, etc.
