damn, i wanna see the garage. post pics!
I have all the power tools John. My dad is just reluctant on taking out the radiator cause he just did all that like 4 weeks ago (coolant flush, etc.)
Here’s the garage:
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. you guys are dicks, and that driveway is baller.
lol thanks.
My dad does EVERYTHING. Anything around the house that needs to be done or built, he can do it.
But yeah, that there Subaru is the one in question. I hate that thing right now.
Holy miss a big important step there batman!!! Bent valves for sure if not done
if the belt broke while runnin im sure they are already ,but yes a good point that i forgot lololol
SOHC poo poo motor
SOHC poo poo motor :tongue
Deff not going to hurt the flex plate if you lodge something in their to keep it from moving…
THe starter beats the shit out of it more than a screwdriver or something propped between the teeth will
So…
My dad got a 19" Chain Wrench from Napa for $112 total. Fricken expensive.
After both us giving all the strength we could muster, we got the pulley off. I actually pulled a muscle pushing up on that breaker bar (with a long pipe slid over it to provide more force).
But hey…we can now get to work. I’ve NEVER encountered a bolt like that. And I’m not exactly a weak guy. I pack a little oomph. Neither is my dad (manual labor for 30+ years, arms are pretty big).
welcome to all crank pulley bolts. LOL Hondas are worse.
You kidding me? Damn.
I’m happy that if my timing chain ever blows (thank God it’s not a belt), I’ll just get another engine for $400 and call it a day. None of this crap for me. VQ30DE’s are CHEAP.
So we got the belt on finally (had to remove one more pulley which the Chilton manual didn’t say to do).
However, now when we crank the car…it just cranks and it’s a VERY high pitched crank. My dad is in the process of taking the ‘viewing cover’ off so we can see if the timing belt itself is spinning but…anyone have any ideas?
were all the marks lined up or did you just put the belt on where it was? i would be shocked if the belt wasn’t spinning, if it was that tough to get on, it probably has enough tension to spin. LOL. why didn’t you start / crank the car with the belt cover off just to test?
if everything checks out, compression test it.
My dad put the belt on wherever. We are in the process right now of lining up the belt and the pulleys.
The belt does spin.
Maybe im missing something here but the belt has to go on a certain way…
Well not so much the belt but it has marks on it so that you align the camshaft pulleys and crackshaft pulley where their supposed to be, you cant just take the old one off, slap the new one and and be all dandy…
Wait i read it again… So you put the new belt on any which way it slid on the first time you tried to crank it over again? and now after doing so your trying to line up the belts timing marks with the cams/crank? :ohnoes
The cranks were aligned the first time. The lines on the belt however, were not.
So, we tore it all apart again and we got EVERYTHING (the pulleys AND the belt marks) aligned. Car still does not start. Just cranks.
I don’t know what to do anymore.
So my dad managed to find an old mechanic who used to work at Marshalls in Ravena (Subaru dealer - the guy works elsewhere now). The guy stopped by after work and looked the car over.
No compression/bent valves.
Thanks for the help in this thread…appreciate it.
wow ,i never would of thought that .lololol sucks kid but ya should of save the time and money and bought new motor
