your correct. i work at a shop and if your obd2 there isn’t much fudging of the system that you can do thanks to nysdot.

i also agree with rubino. get the purest rubbing alcohol and throw the maf in a ziploc baggie with the alcohol and shake the shit out of it. pull it out, let it dry, then reinstall. leave the battery disconnected while doing this, and when the car is restarted hopefully the c.e.l. will be off. then go drive it around a bit. if it stays off, bring it in for a sticker asap.

Unless you drive a GM w/HP Tuners or EFI Live… then everything passes

exactly there really is very few ways to get around it.

Not that I WOULD do this, but VIN identification isn’t part of the OBD2 standard…soooo if someone is shady, they can plug in ANY OBD2 car in place of theirs and as long as it will pass…

But, that would risk someones inspection license, and could probably get them prosecuted.

I know someone will argue this with me, but I have had plenty of experience with OBD2 ECU’s to know that VIN number identification is only on certain vehicles and it’s not in the same place on every one even if it does have it.

You can’t require something that doesn’t exist in all situations
