Need the scoop on 3000gt/Stealths

lol @ everything in the above thread.

:repost:

having actually OWNED an rx7 and a 3000gt… rx7 all day. not that the 3000gt wasn’t fun, but if i had to pick one it’d be another rx7 in a heartbeat

This isn’t about you Jay!!!

HAHAHA @ the editing picture

LOOOOL at that picture.

Anyway the only thing I have to contribute is the burning out of the ecu like Woody was talking about did happen to my friend down in Dallas. It wasn’t cheap or an easy thing to have fixed as you can imagine.

Rx7’s can blow my dick I would never let my friend have a stock one.

They look great, and I’m sure they handle great, but like I said. RELIABILITY was an issue of importance.

RX7’s, ARE NOT RELIABLE. I don’t care what anyone says, they simply are maintenance whores.

Drop an Ls1 in one, and its a completely different game however.

Back ontopic.

The Vr-4 has a lot of super car qualities, and for the average joe, it is a supercar. There aren’t that many twin turbo v6 AWD coupes on the market. In reality all I’m interested(Which means the information I’m giving him) is if its reliable and decently quick. They look great, they have a lot of buffalo potential(AWD+AWS could be fun in the winter) and a twin turbo platform that looks like it can be easily modified. Whats not to like? Except it’s heavy and the transfercase eats itself.

In comparison to a WRX(STI maybe) though, what would you rather have? Say your budget is around $15k.

Personally I’d rather him have a WRX (Lower mileage 2k4 with some BPU’s) or a higher mileage STI over the 3kgt. Just for the sole fact that:

  1. Subarus are really reliable, AND easy to work on
  2. Sedans are more practical
  3. Newer

However the prospect of spending $15k towards a 3000gt+mods could be pretty interesting.

Spend $10k on a nice clean, southern VR4 with low miles and spend $5k making it fly, and make it reliable. lol. reliable.

If he isn’t looking to get his hands dirty, get a used WRX… but it will be slower than a used VR-4 with $500 in it.

Pic : Trying to find the first time I used it… was in 05 I think. Depends on when Jay put it in his sig. lol.

I was browsing around on Autotrader last night. There’s a place in Rochester that has a really clean green VR-4 but they want some sort of astronomical amount of money for it

There is one for sale on here for $9.8k with 61k miles and up to date maintenance. It’s a great deal.

There is one for sale in Akron, on Crittenden Rd… they guy wanted $9k I believe, but it was low miles and unmolested. Red w/ tan interior. 6spd. I believe it was a 94.

Maybe his price was higher and I thought it was worth $9k… I don’t remember.

if you want to get technical, my rx7 was more reliable than my vr4, and vr4’s aren’t exactly known for their reliability  see: spun bearings

i just find it amusing that you posted this thread because you obviously don’t know much about the vr4, yet right away you can already assume its better for your friend then an rx7.

anyways, back on topic, the subaru is a much smarter choice, if he’s looking at spending 15 grand then why stop at the wrx, look at sti’s. More reliable than a 3000gt, parts are cheaper/easier to find and you’d have a newer car to boot

oh and jack, the photo edit had me laughing pretty good, cept the blue car shouldn’t be smoking, you got too trigger happy only 2 rotaries in that pic!

I just know RX7’s enough to hate on them.

This thread turned ugly…

RX7’s and 3000GT’s are both really cool cars…

But NEITHER of them are reliable…

Carry on…

Understatement.

my buddy over at corey auto sales has an SL with 160k on the body and less than 20k on tranny and engine for 6500, but they can cut ya a deal. its the maroonish one thats been chillin there for like 8 months, hes gone through about 12 3000gts since he fixed the body on that one but nobody wants it, its a steal

I love vr-4’s they are so damn sexy… looks wise and toys/options > rx7/supra/Z

Because its an sl with ugly rims

considering i bought my 94 SL in 2004 with 120k for 4500, thats not a steal. dealers try to mark these up like crazy. look on 3si.org or craigslist

Joe is correct, this thread went to shit fast. everyone needs to stop getting so butt-hurt about how they feel about their favorite 90s sports car and get back on topic.
