Need a number of a lawyer who could handle something like this.
The city towed my car when I was out of town for not being moved and has been in the city impound since 2/2. A relative called and said I can surrender it and only have to pay the $35 parking ticket and will get my plates back. I called again this Tuesday and was told the same thing by the impound and was told to bring in a signed title and I can transfer the car to the city and get the plates and anything out of it I wanted.
Today I found that the information the guy told me on the phone “he never said” and now I am responsible for accumulated costs to get my plates back which is now over $500.
Anyone have a contact or can point me in the direction of someone that can handle this? The car is in my fathers name so I need to take care of it before I leave town again tomorrow morning.
and if you wish you can also pay for an attorney, it probably won’t help - you’re not unique or special but I wish you luck and report back with results.
Claim filed with the legal department and waiting a call back. The impound is a bunch of useless workers but the legal department at city hall actually seemed like they understood and would look into it. Even the clerk said it was stupid that they gave me one answer twice and when I show up they tell me another and do not let me to the vehicle. I also stressed I would pay the parking ticket becuase I parked my car for 72 hours and had no problem paying the $35 i was originally told or even $70 since its been more than a week.
My big issue is that I was told last week and again Tuesday that if i surrender the vehicle with a title, I would not be responsible for ANY towing or storage fees, just the parking ticket and now they want to charge me more for storage or anything.
