Neonglh's new project - 2006 Evo drag car, "Lana"

Some updates for you all. First off, I still don’t have a transfercase back from TRE yet, but that’s OK. I have been spending time doing little things. Sorry for the horrible photos, but I filled the gauge pod hole with a factory radio blank, and then replaced the factory steering wheel with a Sparco Lap 5 wheel and a new hub for it:

Then, as I talked about before, I want to relocate the fuse block under the hood to under the dash, after removing “most” of the wiring, all of which I do not need. Here is what I am talking about:

I pulled the cover off, and it shows what they are all for, even though it is not too specific, this gives me the main idea:

So from here, I was able to pull out a total of 13 fuses and relays so far. These were for things such as the horn, radiator fan, high beams, a/c, etc… I kept testing other items to see if they are shared, and so far so good. I still have head lights, brake lights, blinkers, interior dome light, and the cluster lights up as well as the fuel pump, so we are good so far {thumbup}

This may seem meaningless, but it’s actually quite significant. With the fuses and relays gone, I can verify that I do not need that wiring, so the next step will be to de-pin the wires form the relay box itself and remove them completely from the system. This will greatly cut down on the number of wires I need to lengthen, to move the fuse box into the cabin of the car. By looking at this, I am confident that I can remove 75% of the wiring!

After I get this under control, I can attack the wiring in the car for more weight reduction. The reason for doing this under the hood though is mostly for appearance. I have yet to see an Evo that has the fuse block completely eliminated under the hood, so this will look sleek!!

^i feel like thats such a waste of time… you’re saving a total of how much weight!!! is it even worth it?

alot i bet. I know on foxbodys the stock harness is like 70 lbs and you can get it down to 15

i hope you never have to sell this

I hope I never die.

I said right in the last paragraph, I am not doing it for weight really, I just want to clean it up under the hood. It will save a few pounds for sure, but it’s mostly for appearance. I want it to look so clean under that hood

Why’s that?

Looks great as always Mark. I am prolly going to be in your neck of the woods next weekend I think. Lets hang.

Definitely, just shoot me a PM and I’ll get you my number.

 wiring weighs more than most people think. Def love the clean look too so you get the best of both worlds.

Yes it’s worth it. It pays off big for the guys who pay attention to EVERY detail such as excess wiring, excess brackets that are no longer used, swapping some components for lighter ones, modifying parts to shave weight etc, etc. It’s why his car is a record holder and why guys with similar motor setups to his run 3/4’s of a second slower and scratch their heads wondering why.

removing some fuses, and wires to safe weight?
is this a joke?

i almost peed when i read this.

lol

:snky:

x2

Some people only see in 2D. Like others have said before you are a champion because of the details!
The reason is simple - Go fast!

Keep doing what you’re doing, Lead the way and others will try to keep up.

PS - Why do you still have climate controls?

Nothing behind them, it just helps make it look less dumb inside the car

Are the knobs glued on?

No, but I REALLY like that idea. I may see what I can do!

no glue, You can gut the unit but keep that face with working switches for other things :snky: ele WP/ FP/line lock, no gay ejector seat switch,

150hp foglights :snky:
