Ugh I had the chance to own the 1st one in Vegas and then I remembered I can’t afford one and was sad.

The IS250 comes in AWD like was previously mentioned but is not that fun to drive.

My vote goes for the G37x or whatever it’s called. Nice styling, 4 doors, AWD, good power.

They seem like they’re quite reliable and easy to maintain, but I’d be worried about insurance cost with one.

i don’t think i like any of those cars enough to justify spending 40k on them…does it have to be new?

yes

x2

if you must have awd

ughhh…

Fair enough. If I had to have AWD the Evo would be high on my list. Older STi not so much. Newest hunchback STi no way. A little paint on the front end and a more tasteful spoiler and I think an Evo X could pass as a respectable young professional car out in the office parking lot if that concerns you.

actually the look of the car isn’t what I mean when I’m saying more “mature” but rather how it drives. I havn’t driven an EVO or STi but I’m guessing they drive a bit rough like a DSM. I should probably test drive one before coming to conclusions.

the new STis are quite different from the old ones

You should be making some pretty serious coin to considering purchasing a $40k car, not just because the “market is soft”. I’m sure that is the unpopular rhetoric though…

that car sucks

:word:

whether the market is soft or not, 40k is 40k.

If you are going to get a 40k car for 30k, well then yeah, strike while it is hot.

I have the coin for $30k plus $10k for trade-in.

I generally think a car should be 1/4th or less of your annual income. Meaning you should be over $160k for a $40k car.

Being able to pay for /= being able to afford.

Not to get too OT.

Do you want something new or used?

For $40k, in that range, I’d be getting an Audi. If it had to be new, it would probably be a LGT, or AWD IS250.

I’ve never been a fan of the G35X (despite loving the G35/7S) I also really don’t care for the AWD BMW sedans.

IMO, I don’t care for STi/Evo’s for DDs for similar reasons to what you’ve mentioned.

a TL-SHAWD would be a great car, although a bit on the slow side (no worse than an IS-250 or others I have mentioned).

-edit-

I’d strongly consider the A5 in that range. Can’t find S5s in that range yet.

i am so glad i am not the only one thinking this.

i wonder how many people that spend 40k+ on a car will end up getting their mortgages partially/wholly paid off under the economic stimulus package?

he can afford it so lets CALM DOWN
