New car options, $40k to spend

i am calm, i was merely pointing out walter brought up something i was thinking.

being able to pay for something doesn’t mean you can afford it. i dont know his situation, but the 25% of annual income is a good rule of thumb for a car purchase.

just sayin

ah ok word i missed where he put his annual income teheee

walter’s logic if flawed anyways.

Under his logic, you should make $80k/year to buy a $20k car.

Is250 awd, Audi a4, Subaru legacy gt!!!

Drive them all for yourself and let us know how it goes…

i can sell you any Lincoln/ford/mazda if you would consider those, or a used BMW =)

I sell from 12 dealerships

Why is it flawed? Just because you don’t agree with it? Rule stands.

It’s flawed because your rule doesn’t take his personal finances into account. You can make 200k a year and have the same expendable/discretionary income as someone making 25k.

:roflpicard:

Its a general guideline. There is no one size fits all rule, however, one being able to float $500 a month for a car payment hardly means one can afford to spend $500 a month. Even if he had $40k cash for the car, if he was making $60k a year its still a stupid decision.

There are plenty of board members that should be driving Ferraris right now by the “I can pay for it” logic… OH wait… :mamoru:

And if you make $200k/yr and have the same “expendable/discretionary” income as someone making $25k you fucking fail. Christ, if if you have the same discretionary income as someone making $100k you fucking fail. Sounds like someone who buys a $40k car when they only make $50k.

I forgot this was $50kmillionare.com though… continue about your way.

i would say dont get an evo or sti, because you’re going to want to mod it.

i like the idea of cts

I like the CTS.

I agree with walter. I could pay for and afford $40k. And I could get a $50k car for that price in this market with my discount. However I am not going to due to economic conditions.

However, it is up to each person to decide what they spend on a car. I think walter is just making a valid point.

If this were me. I would go to a BMW dealership and purchase a Certified Pre-owned BMW for thousands less what a new car will cost.

I drove a 2001 BMW 325is to Philly for blown euros 2 years ago. It had 101,xxx miles on it. I can pick out problems with cars all day long. You could not have told me that was a used car. I would never have known. The build quality from BMW truly is superior to just about all other cars out there that I have driven. I was thoroughly impressed and thus converted to BMWs. Audis and VWs not soo much. The awesome thing about it was that it wasn’t even an M3 and it was extremely sporty, had the most amazing driving feel and retained it’s class.

Chris. If you want something like what I have described, check this out.

I agree 100% No valid reason in my opinion for anyone to purchase a DD brand new. Other than that my vote is any Audi or BMW all day.

Here’s one reason: Interest rate on new cars is better than used.

Oh, and Walter’s rule of thumb is a very very good one, even though some of you don’t want to be told that you’re not as ballin as you like to think you are.

well if you live at home with your parents with no bills making 20k a year u could pay it off like half of nyspeed heh

But if you have to pay more for that new car and have to pay for the depreciation I doubt it’s worth it.

Sure with a used car you have to pay a few more points of interest but it is on a less amount that will hold its value ‘better’ than a new car.

A used car will not lose a third of what you paid for in a year or two…

Volvo S60R - Not to many around, handle and drive phenominally F.I 6cyl

Audi A3 3.2 - DSG only (paddle shift), Haldex AWD, Sporty 5 door hatch, more “mature” than an evo not nearly as fast

Volkwagen CC 3.2 AWD - Luxury sedan under 40k, not a sports car by any means, sporty for its class without a doubt.

Audi A5 3.2 - Same motor as above mentioned Audi/VW choices, Coupe, Actual AWD not Haldex.

Volvo XC60 - Midsize SUV
Audi Q5 - Midsize SUV

Edit: Im also a fan of IS250, and the new Audi a4 is fucking horrid to look at, or I wouldve mentioned it
