i am calm, i was merely pointing out walter brought up something i was thinking.
being able to pay for something doesn’t mean you can afford it. i dont know his situation, but the 25% of annual income is a good rule of thumb for a car purchase.
It’s flawed because your rule doesn’t take his personal finances into account. You can make 200k a year and have the same expendable/discretionary income as someone making 25k.
Its a general guideline. There is no one size fits all rule, however, one being able to float $500 a month for a car payment hardly means one can afford to spend $500 a month. Even if he had $40k cash for the car, if he was making $60k a year its still a stupid decision.
There are plenty of board members that should be driving Ferraris right now by the “I can pay for it” logic… OH wait… :mamoru:
And if you make $200k/yr and have the same “expendable/discretionary” income as someone making $25k you fucking fail. Christ, if if you have the same discretionary income as someone making $100k you fucking fail. Sounds like someone who buys a $40k car when they only make $50k.
I forgot this was $50kmillionare.com though… continue about your way.
I agree with walter. I could pay for and afford $40k. And I could get a $50k car for that price in this market with my discount. However I am not going to due to economic conditions.
However, it is up to each person to decide what they spend on a car. I think walter is just making a valid point.
If this were me. I would go to a BMW dealership and purchase a Certified Pre-owned BMW for thousands less what a new car will cost.
I drove a 2001 BMW 325is to Philly for blown euros 2 years ago. It had 101,xxx miles on it. I can pick out problems with cars all day long. You could not have told me that was a used car. I would never have known. The build quality from BMW truly is superior to just about all other cars out there that I have driven. I was thoroughly impressed and thus converted to BMWs. Audis and VWs not soo much. The awesome thing about it was that it wasn’t even an M3 and it was extremely sporty, had the most amazing driving feel and retained it’s class.
Chris. If you want something like what I have described, check this out.
Oh, and Walter’s rule of thumb is a very very good one, even though some of you don’t want to be told that you’re not as ballin as you like to think you are.
