New Clutch slave cylinder not working

The pedal gets pushed back up by the spring in the master not the slave. Time to take a look at that master and see if it’s binding. If it is binding time to take it apart and clean it out really well. The one in my Fiero got just a little bit of contamination in it when I got a leak in the line and it was binding pretty bad. Once you get the master removed there should be a little spring clip on the end holding the piston in. Before you try taking it completely apart to clean it you can try removing the bleeder and spraying brake cleaner in both ends (the bleeder hole and the clutch line hole). Try and get it filled right up with cleaner and move the piston. Do this several times, until you get just nice clean brake cleaner coming out. It should slide very smoothly when you’re done, just be careful you don’t slide it dry because you might tear the little o-ring. Lube FTW heh.

The master seems like the culperate but, do u have any Idea where it is on theis car, strut tower on one side brake booster on the other bolts at top and bottom, I could find a way to take it out but even though the pedle wont return also there is no engagement point, no feel on the clutch untill almost to the floor. this is nuts

I’m not really sure at this point. Sounds like something is wrong with that master so it’s probably going to have to come out. At a minimum for inspection and cleaning, possibly to be replaced.

Anyone know if the pedal should return even if there is no fluid in the system? My guess is the spring in the master should push the pedal back up even with no fluid, but I’m not sure.

Also, I’d really start looking for fluid leaks because it sounds like no matter how much you bleed it you’re getting more and more air in the system.

Yeah, I thought ther was air getting in too but I cant find a leak and Even if I did It would be so small it would never cause the clutch to be soo bad, and it sounds as thought the master is why it is not retuning, but I really cant get it out, If i took the resiviour and line off could I clean it still on the car, althought it sounds like the spring is shot and it needs to come out.

Trust me, it’s a replaceable part, it comes out. It might not be fun, but it will come out somehow. If you don’t already have a service manual, now would be a good time to pick one up. See how it suggests removing it.

I honestly can’t say that’s all your problem though. In fact, I’m still very confident that you have a bad clutch in addition to all the hydraulic issues you’re now having. But, one step at a time. Make sure there isn’t something stupid like a binding pedal causing it to come up slow. If you pull the pedal up with your hand does it move smoothly on the pivot?

I,m sure the cluthc is worn but it is way too bad to just be the clutch, I just drove it and the new slave cylinder helped alot shifts smoother, no grinds, alot less slipage (still some) and the clutch engages much more agressivley all I need now is the stupid pelde to return better, Im gonna look into replacing the master but as of now it is Driveable, and is better than before (exept for the pedle) Thaks for all the info Though.

if ur master cylinder is shot, ur clutch will most likely just stick to the floor

ive had master cylinders go on a few cars. it def. sounds like the culprit. the nuts are probably located on the pedal assembly, and u will probably have to remove a pin from the small rod that connects the pedal to the piston on the master

Be careful “just driving it”. A clutch slipping, even just a little, is wearing it MUCH faster than one that isn’t slipping. Maybe you’re lucky and the clutch itself is fine and it’s just all the problems with your hydraulics that are causing the problem, but that won’t be the case long if you driving it with it slipping.

I know you just got it, and you really want to drive it, but park it until it’s fixed right and it will cost you a whole lot less in the long run.

Well I know the clutch has to be replaced, i’m kinda waitin too see how much labor on a new Exedy is gonna be but I’m preety sure I’m gonna have to do it myself.

ur having trouble swapping a master cylinder and u wanna go ahead and do the whole clutch urself?

Well I actullay didnt try Pulling the master, it is just pinned between the Strut tower and brake booster. Im sure if i tried I could get it out

Are you sure if you tried you can get the tranny out? You really need to get someone who knows what they are doing over to your house, or better yet pay someone to fix your car. Sounds like your spinning your tires.

+1

The car seems to keep getting worse. When you first brought up your problems it was just slipping a little in the high gears. Time to get someone who’s a little better mechanic to give you a 2nd opinion.
