New F80/F82 BMW M3/M4 - Dyno Video

UPDATED: Dyno HERE

can’t wait for this thing…

some specs:

The BMW M4 weight just under 1,500 kg to get the DIN weight amounts to 1,497 kg. The EU’s weight, which with one passenger (68 kg) and a few kilograms of luggage (7 kg) is taken into account, is 1,572 kg. The M3 weighs 1,520 kg. In comparison, the E92 M3 weighs 1,575 kg (DIN). Below are the comparison of the M4 with its predecessor, the E92 M3.

Performance

The M4 is powered by a 2,979 cm3 large straight-six engine with TwinPower Turbo. It delivers 431 hp and 550 Nm at 1850-5500 rpm.

0-100 km/h does the M4 in 4.1 seconds and the top is of course limited to 250 km/h. Order a M Driver’s Package, and the needle stops at 280 km/h. The elasticity of 80-120 km/h in 4th gear coming out at 3.5 seconds. That’s as fast as a Porsche 996 Turbo and a Ferrari 575M Maranello F1, and even two tenths faster than a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano F1 and a Pagani Zonda S …

The average consumption is 8.3 l/100km, with corresponding CO2 emissions of 194 g/km.
The E92 M3 accounted for 12.4 liters on average, and an emission of 290 g/km. 0-100 goes 4.6 seconds and 80-120 km/h was in 4.9 seconds.

Dimensions

The M4 Coupe measurement (without mirrors) 4,671 x 1,870 x 1,383 millimeters, the E92 M3 4615 x 1804 x 1424 mm. The new M is longer, wider and lower, but also lighter. The horsepower-to-weight ratio (DIN / EU) rises to 3.47 / 3.65. This was 3,75 / 3,93.

Weight

1497kg / 3300lbs (all fluids, 90% fuel, no driver)
1572kg / 3466lbs (plus 68kg driver and 7kg luggage)

BMW has finally, officially, taken the wraps off the hotly anticipated, straight-six-powered, M4 Coupe and M3 saloon. We’ve been over the difference in nomenclature, but, to remind you: the M3 is the four-door, the M4 the two-door (and upcoming convertible). Simple.

And, though it’s lost a pair of cylinders, this is the powerful M3 in history. Both cars pack a 3.0-litre straight six with a pair of mono-scroll blowers, returning 431bhp with a 7,600rpm redline, and a whopping 406lb ft. The old naturally aspirated V8 made 414bhp and 295lb ft. Even more impressive figures are the boring-but-practical digits: consumption and emissions are down by 25 per cent, giving 32.0mpg and 204g/km. We’re promised it’ll sound good, too: there’s a flap in the exhaust pipe that varies the sound you hear depending on the car’s mode.

This power is fed through a standard-fit six-speed manual gearbox with an auto throttle-blipping function, though you can spec the seven-speed double clutch (DCT) transmission featuring something BMW officially calls (and we’re really, really not making this up)… the Smokey Burnout function. Yes folks, the new M3 and M4 are hooligans.

Both M3 and M4 are, of course, staunchly rear-wheel-drive, and that extra power moves less weight: both are roughly 80kg lighter than their predecessors, with the M4 weighing in at 1500kg, and the M3 saloon just 23kg heavier. Both will do 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds (4.1s with the DCT ‘box) and run on to a limited 155mph.

There’s nothing limited about the sideways, though. BMW itself says the M Dynamic Mode “allows greater wheel slip and therefore easy drifting”, which is the sort of technical insight of which we very much approve.

There’s also some serious aero going on: air curtains on the front bumper and air breathers in the front arches that massage the air around the front of the car, a smooth underbody, a Gurney flap on the M3’s bootlid, and a CSL-style CFRP rear-end on the M4 (oh, and speaking of CFRP, both models get a roof made of the stuff, saving up to 6kg). There are carbon ceramic brakes, too.

Inside, you get standard bucket-style M Sport leather seats that look fantastic, an illuminated ‘M’ logo on the backrests, a decent-sized boot and a BMW M lap timer.

Prices for the saloon start at £56,175, while the M4 Coupe starts at £56,653 (and, most will be glad to hear, comes in colours other than gold). Sad to see the naturally aspirated V8 go, or will you take more power, less weight and a twin-turbo straight six?

The side shot of the blue sedan really still looks like an e90 profile. It would be cool if they made an AWD M3/4.
Will be interested to hear the engine specifics too.

AWD would suck, keep this thing RWD

It sure does look nice.

Only 2 pedals? :frowning:

Will not buy.

Six speed is standard equip, 7-speed dct optional

I dunno what to think of it until I see it in real life. If it’s as reliable as the current gen M3 then it’s golden. But I doubt it.

what is that giant CF “U” shaped thing in the engine bay? brace of some kind?

hey look its the M4

flat bottom steering wheel would be nice but at least now the current s4/5 interior doesn’t blow it away anymore

Looks cute. My wife and girlfriend would enjoy it.

hopefully not at the same time.

updated with some more specs.

i cant wait to get one but considering how expensive they are i will likely wait and go CPO.

they’re well over $100k fully loaded after taxes here.

Yay yay!!

I wouldn’t call it leaked when there is already road test video in Germany.

:o

I will be interested to see how the ATS-V will performance and be priced compared to this. Refinement not a chance but handling and acceleration it should give it a nice run.

I just can’t wait for the new Toyota Sienna to come out.
