I’m trying to wire in my new head unit using a wiring adapter with help from a web guide. It said,
“I recommend connecting the new unit’s speaker outputs into the existing
amplifier inputs, instead of direct to the speakers. The existing amplifiers have electronic equalization that enhances bass and treble response, and sounds better than running the speakers directly from the new unit.”
So does that mean I should splice all the speaker output wires (4+ 4-) from the head unit to the adapter’s amp wires (1+ 1-)?
Should I connect the ground from the head unit directly to the car, or should I splice it to the ground from the adapter?
I bypassed my “Active Speaker” amps. Those are garbage anyways. Modern headunits put out much more RMS wattage, and have a cleaner sound in the process. I suggest you bypass them. There is a guide online (search on NICO probably) regarding which wires to cut from the amp assembly and then rewire directly into the speakers. Be careful stripping them, mine kept breaking off because they were very brittle.
Regarding the ground from the headunit, I don’t remember doing it seperately, but if the harness ground is good, why not use it? If you are wiring in an amp, grounding those properly are very important otherwise you get on/off issues or have the dreaded rpm dependent whine playing through the speakers.
